  • PSC urges caution during power outages

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - With some power outages in Kentucky expected to extend into late this week, the Kentucky Public Service Commission (PSC) is urging residents without power to exercise caution when using portable generators or clearing storm debris.

    Two series of strong thunderstorms caused two waves of power outages in the state recently, with damage concentrated in eastern Kentucky. More than 40,000 customers remain without power as of this afternoon.

  • Kentucky Speedway’s speedy solution impresses race fans

    SPARTA — A steady stream of traffic moved smoothly into the Kentucky Speedway all day Saturday for the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 – a sharp contrast to last year’s inaugural race, where mismanaged and inadequate parking resulted in hours-long traffic jams that caused more than 10,000 fans to miss the race entirely.

  • State police outline traffic plans for Quaker State 400

    While last year’s first NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Quaker State 400 at the Kentucky Speedway was largely a success, the traffic and lack of parking problems left a bad taste in the mouths of some race fans. Because of this, Kentucky State Police took the reigns this year and presented their plan at a news conference Thursday, June 21 at the racetrack.

  • Search unsuccessful for bridge jumper

    Law enforcement are continuing their search for a Madison man who jumped from the Kentucky River Bridge between Prestonville and Carrollton on Thursday, June 21.

    An anonymous person called the Carroll County Sheriff’s Office at approximately 10:15 a.m. Thursday regarding a naked man standing on the rail of the bridge between Carrollton and Prestonville, according to a news release. Carrollton Police Assistant Chief Steve Abbott arrived on scene approximately 30 seconds later.

  • Historic Shaker Village to be site of equestrian trails conservation workshop

    Lexington, KY - The historic Shaker Village of Pleasant Hill in Harrodsburg, Kentucky will be the site of a trails conservation workshop associated with the Southeastern Equestrian Trails Conference. SETC is a two-day conference established thirteen years ago, and will be held in Lexington, Kentucky on July 13-14, 2012. The Shaker Village workshop will be held on July 12, 2012 as an optional pre-conference offering.

  • Legislation allows taxpayers to contribute to Farms to Food Banks

    Frankfort, Kentucky – At a time when food banks are experiencing unprecedented demand for emergency food assistance, Kentucky residents will soon have a new opportunity to join the fight against hunger. Surrounded by farmers and anti-hunger advocates, Governor Steve Beshear on June 15 signed a bill that will allow Kentucky residents to donate a portion of their income tax refund to support the Farms to Food Banks Trust Fund.

  • Kentucky State Police troopers sporting new ride

    Motorists throughout the state may do a double-take this summer as the Kentucky State Police begin rolling out new cruisers with an updated look. The agency is transitioning from the Ford Crown Victoria, which is no longer being manufactured, to the 2012 Chevrolet Caprice Police Patrol Vehicle. KSP recently purchased 125 of the vehicles (100 in traditional gray and 25 in tan for use by its Commercial Vehicle Enforcement Division) to begin replacing its aging fleet of 2004-2010 model Fords.
