  • Tri Kappa Tour of Homes Oct. 12-14

    MADISON, Ind. - Tri Kappa Sorority’s biennial Tour of Homes is set for October 12th-14th, 2012, offering individuals the opportunity to tour eight private homes and historic buildings not ordinarily open for public viewing. Hosts will guide individuals through the homes, detailing items of interest and the history of each home. Included on the tour this year are homes of various architectural styles.  All proceeds from the tour are used for local scholarships and other philanthropic projects.

  • Local Guard unit preparing for deployment to Africa

    Members of the Carrollton National Guard unit are preparing for deployment to Africa, which will occur sometime in October.

    Capt. Chris Fitzwater, who heads Alpha Battery, 2nd Battalion, 138th Artillery based in Carrollton, said the unit will be activated Saturday, Sept. 1. The 62 members of the unit will meet at 2 p.m. that day in the Carroll County High School gymnasium for a send-off from friends, family and the public.

  • Free health screenings available at Kentucky State Fair

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - Visitors to the Kentucky State Fair in Louisville this month can get information to help their families’ health and well-being through free screenings and educational activities at the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services exhibit.
    The interactive display, which will be located in the Health Horizons section of the Kentucky Fair and Exposition Center’s South Wing B, features a chance to speak one on one with health educators and learn more about family services.

  • I-64 construction to begin in Shelby County

    Louisville – The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet recently awarded a contract for the widening of Interstate 64 in Shelby County from the Welcome Center to ½ mile east of KY 55.

    Work will begin the week of Aug. 12 to widen the roadway to three lanes in each direction. The new lanes will be constructed in the interstate median.

  • KSP asks drivers to pay attention to school bus activity

    (FRANKFORT, KY.) -  Summer break ended for thousands of Kentucky students last week as they headed back to school. For many children, getting to and from school will take place on a school bus.  Unfortunately, every year children are injured and even killed in school bus related crashes.

    Last year, Kentucky had 1,627 school bus related crashes resulting in 506 injuries and five deaths. With school starting in many communities, KSP Spokesman Tpr. Michael Webb is urging motorists to be alert for loading and unloading school buses.

  • Perryville set for 150th anniversary of battle

    PERRYVILLE, Ky. - Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site is commemorating the 150th anniversary of the largest Civil War confrontation in Kentucky on Oct. 6-7, with three battle re-enactments.

    The weekend will also include living history demonstrations, artillery demonstrations, military camps, expert speakers and paranormal tours.

    LOUISVILLE, Ky. --  Kentucky’s 38,000 Beef Producers are once again the proud sponsor of the 2012 Gourmet Garden at the Kentucky State Fair. 

    The Gourmet Garden, located in the air-conditioned South Wing Lobby A, showcases daily educational and entertainment events from culinary professionals from across the state of Kentucky.  The Gourmet Garden has won the International Association of Fairs and Expositions’ Award of Excellence in 2004, 2006, 2008 and 2011.  (The full Gourmet Garden schedule is attached.)
