  • Kentucky State Police to conduct traffic safety checkpoints

    The Kentucky State Police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints in the counties of Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Owen, Carroll and Gallatin during the period of Sept. 1 through 30. 
    The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for high visibility public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration of vehicles, the licensing of drivers, and detection of impaired drivers. Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed in accordance with Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws.

  • Perryville Civil War battle re-enactment set Oct. 8-9

    PERRYVILLE, Ky. -- The commemoration of the Battle of Perryville, designated this year as the national Civil War re-enactment, is the weekend of Oct. 8-9, 2016.
    The Battle of Perryville was the largest Civil War battle in Kentucky and left more than 7,500 casualties. Serving as a national re-enactment, Perryville Battlefield State Historic Site is expecting up to 4,000 re-enactors. Unlike other re-enactments, the Perryville re-enactment is commemorated on the same ground where the battle took place in October, 1862.

    Four weeks after announcing he would seek a 5-cent property-tax increase and two days after making his case at a public forum, Scott County’s new superintendent backtracked Thursday.
    The decision means activity toward building the proposed $60 million, 750-student Great Crossing High School — already delayed since last fall — will be pushed at least until spring and possibly farther into the future, Superintendent Kevin Hub said after the board’s monthly work session.

This latest preservation success story was the result of a national fundraising campaign conducted by the Trust earlier this year. With the addition of these 70 acres, the Trust has helped save 1,027 acres at Perryville, the site of Kentucky’s largest, bloodiest Civil War battle.
