  • Lanier Home to host Civil War event

    April 12th marks the 150th anniversary of the beginning of the most traumatic event in American history, the Civil War. To commemorate this momentous event in our nation’s history, a free program Disunion! The War Begins! will be held at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site, on Tuesday, April 12 at 8 p.m.

    “It is appropriate that we are holding this event at the Lanier Mansion State Historic Site since J.F.D. Lanier did so much to help Indiana during the Civil War,” said Lanier site manager Gerry Reilly.

  • NAS seeks OK for new expansion

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – North American Stainless hopes to win approval this month for a $10-15 million funding package to expand its long products division in Ghent.
    Carroll County Fiscal Court approved an inducement resolution Tuesday, Jan. 8, for as much as $30 million in bonds and state real-estate tax breaks for the NAS project.

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Clay Cable has served Carrollton and Carroll County in a variety of roles, ranging from school board chairman to firefighter. His newest role? Deputy sheriff.
    Cable was sworn in on Wednesday by District Judge Elizabeth Chandler into a job he has “always wanted to do. … Since I left the military, I never really had the opportunity to do so until Sheriff (Jamie) Kinman gave me the opportunity.”

  • Governor appoints Bowling Green mayor to secretary of state office

    FRANKFORT - Kentucky Secretary of State Trey Grayson announced today he is resigning to accept a post at Harvard University's Kennedy School of Government. Friday afternoon, Gov. Steve Beshear announced he will appoint Bowling Green Mayor Elaine Nogay Walker to finish out the 11 months of Grayson's term.

  • Regatta group receives partial repayment of embezzled funds

    Madison Regatta Inc., the all-volunteer, nonprofit entity that organizes and runs the annual Indiana Governor’s Cup boat race on the Ohio River, has received partial reimbursement of funds embezzled from its bank accounts nearly a decade ago.
    Regatta media chairman Joe Hertz said in a news release issued Monday that the funds had been received. The release did not specify how much money was involved in the reimbursement.
