  • Traffic plans set for influx of fans

    Kentucky Speedway, Kentucky State Police, KDOT District 6 and the Kentucky Tourism Council collaborated to form a comprehensive traffic and parking plan designed to accommodate more than 100,000 race fans that will converge on the commonwealth during  the facility’s July 7-9 NASCAR tripleheader weekend which will feature the inaugural “Quaker State 400.”

  • Gallatin facility ready for big NASCAR event

    Race fans attending this weekend’s inaugural NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at the Kentucky Speedway “are going to be thrilled when they get here,” according to Marcus Smith, President of Speedway Motor Sports, Inc. “Thousands and thousands of race fans are going to be so excited when they get here and see all of the phenomenal improvements that we’ve made to the speedway. I think that they will all know that they have arrived at what is the newest and greatest speedway on the NASCAR circuit.”

  • Governor announces veteran initiative

    While honoring Kentucky veterans at a Memorial Day ceremony in Grant County, Governor Steve Beshear announced the11-11-11 initiative, an event to honor the Commonwealth’s loyal and brave men and women.  Veterans’ Day is Nov. 11, 2011, or 11-11-11. Gov. Beshear and his administration plan to highlight and honor Kentucky’s veterans and active duty service members over the next five months, beginning with Memorial Day and capping off with a celebration on Veterans’ Day.

    Trimble County High School graduate and current Union County, Ky., Superintendent Joshua Powell recently spoke at the National School Board Association meeting in San Francisco.  During his presentation, Powell said school turnaround can happen in any district with the support of a proactive board regardless of size, demographics or location.

  • SHINING STAR

    Baptist Hospital Northeast recently recognized a Bedford resident as a Shining Star. Shining Stars are recognized for going above and beyond outside the workplace. Jeff Wright, of Bedford, Medical Office Building, serves as assistant fire chief in Bedford. He was recognized after he heard a call on his scanner about a potential jumper when he was near the Madison Bridge, which is out of his jurisdiction and while he was off duty. He went to the bridge, found the woman and talked her down.
