  • KSP plans checkpoints

    The Kentucky State Police will be conducting traffic safety checkpoints in the counties of Oldham, Trimble, Henry, Owen, Carroll and Gallatin during the period of May 28 - June 11, 2012.

    The intent of a traffic safety checkpoint is to provide for high visibility public safety service, focusing on vehicular equipment deficiencies, confirming appropriate registration of vehicles and the licensing of drivers.  Violations of law or other public safety issues that arise shall be addressed in accordance with Kentucky traffic and regulatory laws.

    FRANKFORT, Ky. - Guests planning to attend the 150th commemoration of the Battle of Perryville, Oct. 6-7, can save money and avoid long lines by purchasing advance tickets online.

    The Kentucky Department of Parks is offering advance tickets for the first time, with savings of between $5 and $7.50 on the ticket price. Advance sales will be available through Sept. 28.

  • Carrollton Wesleyan revival set

    The Carrollton Wesleyan Church, 216 Third Street in Carrollton, will host a series of revival services beginning Wednesday, May 16 through Sunday, May 20.

    The Rev. Bud Allman will serve as the evangelist for the meetings. Mark Chapman will be the song evangelist.

    Services will be held Wednesday-Saturday at 7 p.m. Sunday’s services will include Sunday School at 9:30 a.m., worship at 10:30 a.m. and a concert at 2 p.m. featuring Mark Chapman.

  • Administration Withdraws Extreme Farm Labor Proposal

    WASHINGTON -- An Obama administration proposal, which would have restricted child labor on farms, was withdrawn last week after criticism from agricultural groups.

    The rules, which were supported by child labor advocates, would have banned children younger than 16 from using most power-driven farm equipment, including tractors, if they had not taken a training course.

    The proposal also would have prevented those younger than 18 from working in feed lots, grain bins and stockyards.
