  • Area officials excited about bridge project

    MADISON, Ind. –“We are so excited,” said Trimble County Judge-Executive Randy Stevens, smiling broadly after a Monday news conference with U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood in Madison’s City Hall.

    Stevens said he and other Trimble officials are thrilled to see the project moving forward, especially “after seeing things go backward, with the weight-limit reduction, and the poor rating [of the bridge].”

  • State, federal officials commit to funding bridge project

    MADISON, Ind. – There were no surprises in Monday’s news conference with U.S. Secretary of Transportation Ray LaHood at Madison’s City Hall.

    LaHood, who earlier in the day had visited officials with the Louisville bridges project in Jeffersonville, Ind., was escorted into Madison by Indiana Congressman Baron Hill to personally pledge the $20 million in federal grants awarded to the Milton-Madison Bridge project.

  • Bridge project awarded $20 million in TIGER Grant funds

    The federal government Wednesday announced it would fund $20 million of the $95 million requested by the transportation agencies of Kentucky and Indiana for replacement of the Milton-Madison Bridge.   • Petition circulating to preserve Milton-Madison Bridge

    Imagine riding a bike or walking with your family across the Ohio River on the Milton-Madison Bridge.

     It’s a dream for George Freeman, a former Madison resident who has started a grass-roots effort to preserve the 80-year-old span for future generations.

    Freeman, who owned WIKI Radio station for 20 years, is circulating a petition to have the old span preserved as a foot bridge. He also wants to see an observation tower included on any new structure that might replace the existing bridge for motor vehicle traffic.

  • Weight limit set for Milton-Madison Bridge

    MILTON, Ky. – Tractor trailers and other vehicles weighing 15 tons or more soon will be barred from the Milton-Madison Bridge, following a recent inspection by the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

    A “fracture critical inspection” conducted in December revealed “advanced deterioration” of the bridge, officials said during a meeting Thursday, March 12, at Milton City Hall.

    Another step in the Milton-Madison Bridge project was taken last week when members of the newly formed Project Advisory Group, PAG, met for the first time on Oct. 9 at the Brown Memorial Gymnasium in Madison, Indiana.
