  • Team oversees efforts to mitigate impacts of bridge construction

    A mitigation team is overseeing plans and available funding for addressing negative impacts, which are expected to be encountered during the construction of a new U.S. 421 bridge over the Ohio River between Milton and Madison.

    When the Federal Highway Administration considers construction projects they must by law consider the impact on the environment and on historic properties. When there is a negative impact, funds are made available to mitigate that impact.

  • Overview of bridge project tops agenda

    Indiana and Kentucky transportation officials and representatives from Walsh Construction will host a public meeting from 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 11, at Milton Elementary School.
    A presentation at 6:30 p.m. will include an overview of the design-build process to be used to replace the 81-year-old Milton-Madison Bridge over the next year and a half.

  • Work begins soon on Milton-Madison Bridge project

    The moment everyone on both sides of the Ohio River has been waiting for is iminent – work to replace the 81-year-old Milton-Madison Bridge soon will be under way.

    During the past few weeks, a lot of behind-the-scenes work has been progressing, such as obtaining permits for the project from the U.S. Corps of Army Engineers, the U.S. Coast Guard  and Kentucky and Indiana environmental agencies, said Aaron Stover, project manager for Michael Baker Jr. Inc., the architectural firm hired for design review on the project.

  • MOVE THAT BRIDGE!

    MADISON, Ind. – In keeping with the spirit of the proposed 10-day closure of the span they are about to replace, officials kept the ceremonial  groundbreaking for the Milton-Madison Bridge Project short and sweet.
    Madison Mayor Tim Armstrong introduced the state and federal dignitaries invited to speak  at the event, which was moved indoors from the bridge site to the Brown Auditorum because of rain.

    The Kentucky General Assembly approved a $4.45 billion two-year road plan late Saturday that includes $62.5 million in funding for Kentucky’s share of the Milton- Madison bridge.   • Everyone involved with bridge project deserves credit for grant

    Finally. We all know now that, one way or another, the Milton-Madison Bridge will be replaced within the next two years.

    It’s been a long hard road. Just ask Jack Couch, a Trimble County resident and former judge-executive who has been working toward this goal since 1986, when studies first begun on replacing the bridge.
