  • Bedford to crack down on late payments

    Bedford residents who are delinquent in paying their sewer bills may soon find the city playing “hardball.” The subject of delinquent sewer payments is a recurrent theme of discussion at the monthly meetings of the Bedford City Commission.

    Mayor Russell Clifton told the commissioners that City Clerk Joyce Teague battles with the issue on a regular basis of city sewer customers making only partial payments of what is due to the city and some continue to run behind each month.

  • County sets tax rates, jail expense a concern

    The members of Trimble County Fiscal Court on Monday voted to follow the recommendation of the Kentucky Department of Local Government in setting the tax rates for the 2012-13 year. The compensating rate suggested by the Department of Local Government for real property is 7.6 cents per $100. An increase would require a public hearing, according to Interim Judge-Executive Stephen Stark.

  • Magistrate Melvin arrested for DUI

    Trimble County Magistrate Kirby Melvin was arrested early Sunday and charged with driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, according to Trooper Brad Arterburn, Public Information Officer for the Kentucky State Police Campbellsburg Post 5.

    Melvin was arrested by Trooper Charles Loudermilk at 12:01 a.m. Sunday. Melvin was stopped on U.S. 421N in the city limits of Bedford, Arterburn said.

  • Margie Webster named Signature’s CNA of the Year

    Signature HealthCARE has recognized Bedford resident Margie Webster as Certified Nursing Assistant of the Year. Webster has been employed at the Bedford nursing home facility for 23 years this month.

    Signature HealthCARE of Trimble County Administrator Mark Witt said Webster was chosen from among personnel of 30 facilities in the Signature system.

    “We nominated her and she was selected the best CNA out of those 30 buildings in our segment,” Witt said.
