  • Bridge Slide Scheduled Week of April 6; Closure to Remain Until Mid-April

    (Posted March 26, 2014) Preparation work continues for the slide of the Milton-Madison Bridge, which is tentatively scheduled to take place the week of April 6. Once the bridge has been moved onto its permanent piers, it will take approximately a week to complete inspections, road connections to the bridge and other work. As a result, the bridge will remain closed until mid-April.

  • Pendleton woman victim in fatal I-71 crash

    On Tuesday, March 25 at approximately 9:26 a.m., Oldham County Police were dispatched to a motor vehicle collision on Interstate 71 south bound near the Gene Snyder Freeway.

    When police arrived they located a multi-vehicle collision in Oldham County approximately 1/2 mile before the Jefferson County Line. The collision involved a total of five vehicles; a box truck, a semi-tractor trailer, and three passenger vehicles.

    The initial investigation indicated traffic was slowing, or stopped, due to road work.

  • TRAFFIC ALERT!!! Southbound I-71 closed due to crash involving multiple vehicles!

    Southbound I-71 is closed at Exit 28 in Henry County. Traffic is being
    detoured via KY 153 over to US 42. Motorists can follow US 42 to the Gene Snyder
    Freeway in Jefferson County. All entrance ramps to southbound I-71 in Oldham County
    are closed as well.

    The crash occurred at mile point 12.5 in Oldham County, about 3 miles before the
    Gene Snyder Freeway. Police, fire and EMS are on the scene. KYTC is helping with
    traffic control.

  • Steel Bearing Replaced; Bridge to be Closed Through First Week of April

    Construction crews have completed the job of jacking up the Milton-Madison Bridge and replacing a steel bearing that dislodged last week. The jacking began Friday afternoon at 3:19 p.m. The process took nearly 15 hours to complete as the southeast corner of the bridge was raised nearly one foot in order to slide the new bearing into place. By 6:00 a.m. this morning, the jacks were removed with the bridge load back on its bearings.

  • Baldwin attorneys seek bond reduction

    A bond reduction hearing for Robert L. Baldwin III has been set for 8 a.m. Tuesday, March 25, in Oldham Circuit Court. Baldwin, of 68 Kenlee Drive Bedford, is accused in the brutal killing of 24-year-old Angela Long, whose remains were discovered Nov. 27 in the mobile home residence of her father at 34 Kenlee Drive south of Bedford. Baldwin is being held under $1 million bond at the Oldham County Jail on charges of murder and tampering with physical evidence.

  • DISLODGED BEARING CLOSES BRIDGE INDEFINITELY

    Crewmen from Walsh Construction closed the U.S. 421 Milton-Madison Bridge around 2 a.m. Tuesday morning, March 11, after a steel bearing dislodged between a pier and the bridge. This incident happened at Pier 2, the first land pier on the Milton, Ky., side of the Ohio River.

  • BRIDGE CLOSED UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE

    The U.S. 421 Milton-Madison Bridge across the Ohio River between Madison, Ind., and Milton, Ky., is closed effective immediately and until further notice. The official detours are the
    Markland Locks and Dam Bridge connecting Kentucky Route 1039 and Indiana State Road 101, 26 miles upstream, or the I-65 Kennedy Bridge in Louisville, 46 miles downstream.
    Crews closed the bridge around 3 a.m. this morning after a steel bearing between the bridge and the pier dislodged, injuring a construction worker.

  • Tentative dates announced for upcoming closure and slide of Milton-Madison Bridge

    Closure of the Milton-Madison Bridge is tentatively scheduled to occur Friday, March 14 at 12:01 a.m. with all lanes shut down until Friday, March 21 at approximately noon. Traffic will be reduced to one lane beginning at 9:00 p.m. on Thursday, March 13, in order to move equipment into place. During this time, a flagger will allow traffic in each direction to pass. Inclement weather and other factors could alter the schedule.

     

  • LG&E landfill hearing today at TCHS

    A public meeting is being held by the Kentucky Energy and Environment Cabinet tonight at 7 p.m. at the Trimble County High School gymnasium to explain the application process and answer questions concerning an application submitted by Louisville Gas & Electric and KU Services Company for a permit to construct a special waste landfill at the utility’s Trimble County Generating Station.
