  • EMS event commemorates fallen hero

    On Saturday, family members, friends and co-workers gathered at the Trimble County Emergency Medical Services building to remember and honor the late Mark Rexroat.

    Mark had been an Emergency Medical Technician for the past eight years serving the Trimble County and Henry County districts. Before becoming an EMT he served as the fire chief at the Bedford Volunteer Fire Department.

  • Many steps remain in bridge construction

    “It’s beginning to look like a full-length truss bridge now, which a lot of people will think that sort of signifies the bridge being complete but there’s still work to be done.”

    That was the recent assessment of the progress of the Milton-Madison Bridge Project by Aaron Stover, an engineer with Michael Baker, Jr., Inc., the company in charge of bridge inspection during the project.

  • Light Up Bedford is Friday

    The community’s annual Light Up Bedford celebration will be held this Friday, Dec. 7, at the Courthouse Square. Organizers are hoping for an outstanding crowd for the event.
    The Milton Elementary School Choir will start the program with song at 6 p.m. The Christmas Story will be read and the Lighting of the Square will follow. The Bedford Fire Department will lead the Christmas parade to the Morgan Community Center.

  • Bizarre mishap blocks lanes of bridge

    The Milton-Madison Bridge was closed for about an hour Monday following a single-vehicle injury accident on the exit ramp at the Milton end of the bridge.

    Local police, ambulance and fire units were dispatched to the scene at 2:34 p.m. and found a car rolled over and resting on its top, blocking traffic flow in both directions, according to Trooper Brad Arterburn, Public Information Officer for the Kentucky State Police Post 5 at Campbellsburg.

  • Bedford’s Carla Boyer thankful for second chance at life

    What do you say to a family whose loss has given you a second chance at life?

    That’s a question Bedford resident Carla Boyer, 46, has been asking herself since she received a kidney transplant just over two months ago.

    Boyer knows the gender of her donor, though in an effort to protect the family, she prefers to keep that information to herself. She also knows her donor was the same age as she, and that this person’s last wish was to donate every viable organ doctors could take.

  • Bedford officials eye finances

    Bedford City Commission will wait until their certificate of deposit matures on Dec. 7, 2012 to cash it in. According to Mayor Russell Clifton the city can avoid paying a penalty for early withdrawal and will add much needed funds to the city’s coffer. There will be little money deposited to the city’s accounts until 2013 and they need the extra to keep afloat.

  • Be safe: Thanksgiving is peak day for cooking fires

    FRANKFORT, Ky. – Don’t forget basic cooking safety tips during this Thanksgiving season.

    According to the National Fire Protection Association (NFPA), Thanksgiving is the leading day for home cooking fires. In 2010, cooking was involved in an estimated 156,400 home structure fires that were reported to U.S. fire departments. Those fires caused 420 deaths, 5,310 injuries and $993 million in direct property damage.

  • ‘Recreational’ lots focus of county meeting

    During their regular monthly meeting Monday the members of Trimble County Fiscal Court held a lengthy discussion with developers of seven lots located on Hwy. 36 east of Milton. The property, from the estate of the late Aubrey Jackson, was auctioned on Sept. 22 by Mike Taylor who attended Monday’s meeting with Hanover surveyor Bill Pettitt and realtor Scott Lynch.
