  • Whitt has court appearance

    Vaughn Whitt made his second appearance in Trimble District Court Tuesday in connection with the April 16 shooting death of 17-year-old Brennan Stewart in Madison. Whitt was arraigned by videoconference from the CCDC facility before District Judge Jerry D. Crosby last week. On Tuesday, Whitt was transported to Bedford for another appearance, this time before District Judge Diane E. Wheeler.

    A 31-year-old Milton man, Vaughn Alan Whitt, was arraigned in Trimble County District Court Tuesday on charges of tampering with physical evidence and being a fugitive from another state. The charges stem from the Thursday, April 16 shooting death of 17-year-old Brennan Stewart, of Brooksburg and formerly of Trimble County, on Broadway Street in Madison.

  • Rowlett to attend Gatton Academy

    The Carol Martin Gatton Academy of Mathematics and Science in Kentucky has selected 60 students for its Class of 2017, including Trimble County’s Jenna Rowlett, daughter of Douglas and Missy Rowlett, from Bedford.
    Applicants were evaluated based on ACT/SAT scores, high school grades, awards, extracurricular activities, responses to essay questions, and letters of recommendation. Last month, 108 candidates were invited to interview with community leaders from across the Commonwealth and Gatton Academy alumni.

  • Bedford’s city boundaries under review

    Surveyor Jim Pyles has done some preliminary work in assisting the City of Bedford officials to determine the official boundaries of the city.
    “As you guys know, our boundaries are a contentious item,” Mayor Todd Pollock told the members of the Bedford City Commission Monday. “It has put a strain on a lot of things and it comes down to we need to get it fixed.”

  • Defendants in child abuse case in court

    Preliminary hearings were held Tuesday in Trimble County District Court for two Milton residents charged with criminal abuse of a child in connection with an incident or incidents of restraining a child with a ball and chain in a residence on School Hollow Road.
    Darrin W. McDaniel, 32, was arrested on Saturday, Feb. 7, by Kentucky State Police Trooper Patrick Stucker after the trooper made a welfare check at a mobile home in which McDaniel, his girlfriend, April L. Vantyle, age 31, and three children were residing.
