  • P&Z plan sparks questions, but not fireworks

    There were no fireworks at Monday’s public hearing on proposed zoning changes in the city.

    But, there were a lot of questions – and the answers seemed to satisfy those present.

    Residents along Polk, Fourth and Fifth streets showed up Monday night to learn about a possible change from I-1, Light Industrial, to R-3 or Residential zoning in their neighborhood.

    The former special education teacher may have been enthused when he was named assistant principal of Trimble County High School just two short months ago, but now he practically vibrates with energy when talking about his future as the school’s top administrator.

    Man arrested after

    found in empty plant

    A man apprehended in the former Parthenon Steel plant July 16 after a burglar alarm was activated was charged with third-degree burglary, a Class D felony, and possession of burglary tools, a Class A misdemeanor.

    The incident occurred at 10 p.m. at the plant, located at 252 Jay Louden Road, according to a report filed by Carroll County Deputy Sheriff Jim Hamilton.

  • The search is on for a new principal at MES

    Just hours after announcing Buddy Sampson as the new TCHS principal, district superintendent Marcia Haney-Dunaway was handed the resignation of a popular elementary school principal.

    Chris Kindred, Milton Elementary School’s administrative leader since 2006, resigned his post July 29 to accept the assistant principal position at Bryan Station High School in Fayette County, KY.

    Despite nearly two years experience working for the department, Denton knows many people still refer to him as “rookie” or “the new guy.” But that doesn’t bother the self-proclaimed “boring guy” who traded a career in graphic design for a badge and gun.

  • City council accepts resignations of Gordon, Hunt

    Carrollton City Council accepted resignations from two city employees at its meeting Monday, July 28.

    City Police Officer Jeff Gordon will leave the department Aug. 11. Gordon is moving to Indiana.

    Public Works secretary Rachel Hunt is leaving Aug. 7 to take a teaching position at Christian Academy of Carrollton.

  • Former fire chief respected volunteers

    Understanding the heart of the volunteer was one of the ways Jack Miles, former Carrollton fire chief and dispatch supervisor, will be remembered.

    Miles, 74, died July 23 at St. Elizabeth Medical Center Hospice Unit in Edgewood, Ky.

    Miles began his 23-year career for the city as an engineer, dispatcher and then jailer in the building that used to stand at 512 Sycamore St.

  • Board raises meal prices; Dow presents $10,000 to library project

    Breakfast and lunch at the Carroll County schools will cost a bit more when school starts Aug. 7.

    Patty Burgess, director of food service, requested a 15-cent increase for student breakfasts and a 5-cent increase for student lunches at all schools. She also asked for a 25-cent increase for adult breakfasts and lunches. The board approved both requests at the July 24 meeting.
