  • Alcohol suspected in two-vehicle accident that injured student

    A two-vehicle collision last week sent two people to the hospital, one with serious injuries.

    The crash happened around 8 a.m. Sept. 17 when a red pickup truck driven by David W. Collins, 35, collided with a 2004 Ford pickup driven by 17-year-old Austin W. Kidwell of Campbellsburg.

  • A home on King’s Ridge was a total loss following a fire that took four volunteer fire companies eight hours to battle a week ago.

    The home of Garland Breeden at 3095 Kings Ridge Road was the scene of a fire that may have started as a result of storm damage, according to Clyde Rowlett, Westside Fire Chief.  “Wires were pulled loose during last weeks wind storm and may have started the fire.”

  • McMahan indicted in South Dakota rape case

    An Edmunds County, S.D., grand jury returned with an indictment of a Carrollton man before the prosecutor in the case had time to return to the court room with his cup of coffee.

    Edmunds County State’s Attorney Vaughn Beck said the grand jury indicted Brent McMahan August 15 on one charge of third-degree rape minutes after he finished presenting his case.

  • INFORMATION NEEDED IN RECENT SEXUAL ASSAULT

    The Trimble County Sheriff’s Department and Kentucky State Police are looking for anyone who may have information related to a recent sexual assault.

    Anyone who may have seen a pedestrian or a truck stopped alongside U.S. 42 at Bedford Hill from 9-10:30 p.m. Friday, Sept. 19, is asked to contact KSP at (800) 222-5555 or Sheriff Tim Coons at (502) 255-7138 with their information.

  • Grant to provide safe routes to school

    Connecting all four Carroll County schools by a continuous sidewalk system is $247,000 closer to reality with a recent grant from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet.

    The Transportation Cabinet released the names of five city and county entities that will share a total of $1.3 million for sidewalk improvements, new streetscapes, and pedestrian-path and bike-trail improvements in Northern Kentucky.

  • Carrollton Council OKs $10,000 for Masterson House repairs

    Carrollton City Council voted to approve a $4,000 grant from its Enterprise Incentive Program to the Port William Historical Society to help with the cost of repairs to the Masterson House.

    Council also approved a motion by Kevin Craig to find an additional $6,000 from the city’s 2008-09 general fund.

  • Investigation continues into fatal accident at LG&E Wises Landing

    Investigations are continuing into the workplace mishap that led to the death of a Becon Construction employee at Trimble County’s Louisville Gas & Electric generating station.

    Isidoro Escamilla, 37, died last week in what is only being described by police and company officials as involving “a fall.” Trimble County Deputy Coroner Lee Congleton pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after 2 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 18.

  • Event provided fun, information for potential entrepreneurs

    The Chamber of Commerce blew out all the stops with its Business Celebration Day on Courthouse Square.

    The event, also sponsored by the Carroll County Community Development Corporation, was intended to show off the best Carrollton has to offer.

    Surrounding the square were booths set up by 51 of the Chamber’s 130 members, complete with displays, pamphlets, brochures and give-aways.

  • DAMAGE, DAMAGE, EVERYWHERE

    The phone lines in the dispatch office lit up and stayed that way for five hours Sunday, Sept. 14, as the winds from Hurricane Ike blew through Carroll County –  1,112 miles from Galveston, Texas, where it originally came ashore.

    The sustained winds damaged trees, houses and barns from Carrollton to Sanders, and from Ghent to Kings Ridge Road. Carroll County Sheriff Ben Smith said wind gusts were clocked at 60-75 mph throughout the afternoon.

  • Officer threatened with gun at Carrollton apartment

    When Carrollton Police Officer Daniel Embry answered a harassment call between two neighbors at 1210 Lauren Drive, he found himself on the business end of a fully loaded 380 handgun.

    In his report, Embry said that he responded to the call at 10:30 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 14., off of Highland Avenue. He said Duwanna McCollum of Apt. 32 filed a complaint against neighbor Michael Anderson of Apt. 21.
