The new Madison branch of the Farmers Bank of Milton opened for business this morning. The new facility is located on Clifty Drive on Madison’s hilltop next to the Walgreen Drug Store.

“This is our fourth office” in the bank’s network of facilities, Bank President and Chief Executive Officer Neil Bryan said in an interview yesterday. In addition to  main office at 41 Ferry Street in Milton, Farmers Bank operates branch operations at 1935 Hwy. 227 in Carrollton, and at 2207 South Hwy. 53 in LaGrange.

A tour of the Milton Water and Sewer Company’s various properties on Friday revealed the fruit of many months of labor on the part of city employees effecting improvements in both equipment and appearance.

“We’re trying to get it back up to its original state,” Mark Bates, Milton Water and Sewer Field Coordinator, said. “The sewer system is approximately 30 years old. You can imagine 30 years of use, normal wear and tear. It didn’t get that way overnight.

A fire, which investigators believe was started by a lightning strike, destroyed a Bedford landmark on Wednesday, July 18.

According to the Trimble County Sheriff’s call log, police, Trimble County Emergency Medical Services and fire units from Bedford and Milton were paged to a residence at 498 Highway 421N in Bedford at 9:01 p.m.
