EPA suggests alternate plan for LG&E ash

A federal agency has weighed in on the latest application by Louisville Gas & Electric Company for a federal permit to construct a 189-acre coal ash landfill at the utility’s Trimble County Generating Station. In a letter to the district engineer of the Louisville District of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, a regional administrator for the United States Environmental Agency recommended the utility seek an alternative underground storage site for coal combustion residuals generated by the Trimble plant.
