  • Fay Tharp O'Banion, 97

    OWENTON, Ky. – Fay (Tharp) O’Banion, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton.

    Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the McDonald & New Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St., Owenton, with the Revs. Jesse Bourne and David “Milkweed” Wotier officiating.

    Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery, Owenton.

    Mrs. O’Banion was born March 9, 1911, in Henry County to the late Lewis Boyd and Isabel (Fewell) Tharp.

    She was a retired beautician.

  • Ann Gallimore, 98

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Ann Gallimore, 98, of Carrollton died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at the Green Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was said Monday, Dec. 29, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 507 Fifth St., Carrollton, with Monsignor William B. Neuhaus and the Rev. Kavungal Davy officiating. Burial was in the St. John Cemetery.

    Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 509 Highland Ave., Carrollton, was in charge of arrangements.

  • Ronald L. Smith, 38

    LEXINGTON, Ind. – Ronald L. “Ron” Smith, 38, of Lexington died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at the Jewish Hospital, Louisville, Ky.

    Mr. Smith suffered from a long-term illness for which he had undergone a lung transplant on Sept. 30.

    Funeral services were yesterday, Dec. 30, at Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Ind., with the Rev. Dean Scott officiating. Hanover Masonic Lodge No. 652 F&AM conducted a special service.

  • James Edward Putman, 58

    James Edward Putman, 58, Milton, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at his residence.

    He was born June 22, 1950, in Gaylord, Michigan, to Newton and Mildred Panek Putman.

    He was the owner of Town Cobbler in Madison, Ind. from 2003-2007. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing.

    LOCKPORT, Ky. - Ethel “Granny” Sharp, 88, of Lockport died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at her residence.

    Funeral services were Tuesday, Dec. 23 at the Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home, 425 North Main St., New Castle, Ky. officiated by Bro. Shawn Golden, pastor of Drennon Christian Church. Burial was in the Franklinton Cemetery, Pleasureville, Ky.

    Mrs. Sharp was born on March 9, 1920 to the late James William and Lacie Katherine (Clark) Holmes. She was a member of Drennon Christian Church.

    EMINENCE, Ky.-Karen Lee Merritt, 32, died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008, in Jewish Hospital, Shelbyville, Ky.

    Funeral services will be Wednesday, Dec. 24 at Sholar Funeral Home, 5710 Castle Highway, Pleasureville, Ky. at 1:00 p.m. with the Rev. Michael Duncan of Eminence Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Franklinton Cemetery, Pleasureville.

    She was born in Noblesville, Ind. Aug. 26, 1976 to Ralph Merritt of Pleasureville and Jeannie Fidler of Shelbyville.

    She was a Personal Care Assistant at Colonial Hall Manor in Shelbyville.

  • William B. Long, Sr., 82

    William B. Long, Sr., 82, New Castle, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.

    He was the son of the late Austin and Mary Elizabeth Simpson Long.

    He was a World War II United States Navy veteran and retired from the Henry County Road Department in 1998 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the LaGrange Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness.

    EMINENCE, Ky.- Wesley Morrison, 72, of Eminence died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky.

    Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 20 at Sholar Funeral Home 5710 Castle Highway, Pleasureville, Ky. with Herb Kinman and Bro. Bill Waugh officiating. Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

    Mr. Morrison was born to the late Frank and Gertrude Morrison.on May 15, 1936 in Carroll County.

  • Bessie C. Lucas, 86

    Bessie C. Lucas, 86, Worthville, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Signature Healthcare of Trimble County in Bedford.

    Born January 18, 1922, in Gallatin County, she was the daughter of Herbert and Hattie B. (Wheeler) Courtney.

    She was a member of Carrollton United Pentecostal Church and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed flowers.

    She is survived by one daughter, Ramona (Kelly) Leach, Bedford; one son, Jimmy (Phyllis) Lucas, Carrollton; two sisters, Dorothy May Sharon, Worthville, Naomie Ruth Wainscott, Carrollton, and nine grandchildren.

    Robert Lindsey “Bob” Purvis, 78, Hanover, Ind. died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 in Hanover.

    Born Jan. 27, 1930 in Oldham County, he was the son of Charles W. and Margaret Maddox Purvis.
