    MADISON, Ind. – Dustin Smith, 23, of Madison died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis, Ind., after a long battle with bone cancer.

    Funeral services are 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Morgan andNay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, with Pastor Ron Lee officiating.

    Visitation will start at 9 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Canaan, Ind.

  • Charles J. Sargent, 70

    Charles J. Sargent, 70, Milton, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at his residence.

    Born Jan. 2, 1939 in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Charles T. and Margaret Schmidt Sargent.

    He enjoyed motorcycles, model trains and Corvettes. He retired from Rexnord after 20 years of service and later worked for Wheeler Oil Company.

  • James Edward Putman, 58

    James Edward Putman, 58, Milton, died Friday, Dec. 26, 2008 at his residence.

    He was born June 22, 1950, in Gaylord, Michigan, to Newton and Mildred Panek Putman.

    He was the owner of Town Cobbler in Madison, Ind. from 2003-2007. He was a member of the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and comforting others about Jehovah God’s coming Kingdom.

  • Eugene Carroll Brent, 85

    AUGUSTA, Ga. – Eugene Carroll Brent, 85, of Augusta, formerly of Carroll County, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, in Heartland Hospice, Augusta.

    A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 7, at Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery, Campbells-burg, Ky., with the Rev. Larry Smith officiating.

    Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, Ky., which is in charge of arrangements.

  • William S. Long Sr.

    NEW CASTLE, Ky.- William S. Long, Sr., 82 of New Castle died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky.

    Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 19, at Prewitt Funeral Home, 425 North Main Street, New Castle. Burial was in the New Castle County Cemetery.

    Mr. Long was born Aug. 15, 1926, in Shelby County, Ky., to the late Austin and Mary Elizabeth Simpson Long.

    He was a U.S. Navy veteran and served during World War II.

  • Alexis Jadyn Dawn Robertson, infant

    TURNERS STATION, Ky. – Alexis Jadyn Dawn Robertson, an infant, was stillborn, Tuesday, Dec. 23, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast, La Grange, Ky.

    Graveside services were held Saturday, Dec. 27, at English Cemetery, Carrollton, with the Rev. Jay Montgomery officiating.

    Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, was in charge of arrangements.

  • Stephen Charles Rumer, 63

    Stephen Charles Rumer, 63, Bedford, died Sunday, Dec. 21, 2008 at University of Louisville Medical Center.

    He was a member of Ballardsville Baptist Church and director of Agape Christian Ministry. He was a graduate of Southern Baptist Theological Seminary and pastored churches in Austin, Ind., Berrein Springs, Mich. and St. Joseph, Mich.

  • Ruby Lois Pierce Shepherd Reed, 79

    Ruby Lois Pierce Shepherd Reed, 79, Madison, Ind. died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison.

    Born Sept. 4, 1929 in Louisville, she was the daughter of Fred and Ruby Sanders Pierce.

    She was reared on the Pierce Farm near Bedford and attended Trimble County schools. She graduated from St. Anthony School of Nursing, and began a 30-year career at Central State Hospital, Anchorage, Hanover Nursing Home, Ind. and King’s Daughters’ Hospital. She was KDH’s Employee of the Year in 1981, retiring in 1993.

  • Fay Tharp O'Banion, 97

    OWENTON, Ky. – Fay (Tharp) O’Banion, 97, died Sunday, Dec. 28, 2008, at the New Horizons Medical Center, Owenton.

    Funeral services are 2 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 31, at the McDonald & New Funeral Home, 202 N. Main St., Owenton, with the Revs. Jesse Bourne and David “Milkweed” Wotier officiating.

    Visitation is from 10 a.m. until the service. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery, Owenton.

    Mrs. O’Banion was born March 9, 1911, in Henry County to the late Lewis Boyd and Isabel (Fewell) Tharp.

    She was a retired beautician.

  • Ann Gallimore, 98

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Ann Gallimore, 98, of Carrollton died Thursday, Dec. 25, 2008 at the Green Valley Health & Rehabilitation Center in Carrollton.

    A Mass of Christian Burial was said Monday, Dec. 29, at St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, 507 Fifth St., Carrollton, with Monsignor William B. Neuhaus and the Rev. Kavungal Davy officiating. Burial was in the St. John Cemetery.

    Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 509 Highland Ave., Carrollton, was in charge of arrangements.
