  • Eugene Carroll Brent, 85

    AUGUSTA, Ga. – Eugene Carroll Brent, 85, of Augusta, formerly of Carroll County, Ky., died Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, in Heartland Hospice, Augusta.

    Funeral services were Tuesday, Jan. 6, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton. A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Campbellsburg Masonic Cemetery, Campbellsburg, Ky., with the Revs. Larry Smith and Joe Kindoll officiating.

    Mr. Brent was born Nov. 20, 1923, in Campbellsburg, Ky., to the late William Carey and Roxie (Pyles) Brent.

  • Virginia Frances Brown McElfresh, 66

    GLASGOW, Ky. – Virginia Frances Brown McElfresh, 66, of Glasgow died Jan. 1, 2009, at Bowling Green Medical Center.

    Funeral services were Sunday, Jan. 4, at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, 213 Fifth St., Carrollton, Ky. Burial was in New Castle Cemetery, New Castle, Ky.

    Mrs. McElfresh was born June 11, 1942, in Henry County, Ky., to the late William Authur and Rosa Lee (Young) Brown.

    Survivors include three sons and five daughters.

    In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John McElfresh.

  • Robert L. Burton, Sr., 71

    Robert L. Burton, Sr., 71, Bedford, died Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008 at King’s Daughters’ Hospital in Madison, Indiana.

    Born July 20, 1937 in Rochester, Minnesota, he was the son of James Miller and Myrtle (Pinkston) Wilson.

    He attended Mt. Herman Baptist Church and enjoyed UK basketball, fishing and going to Dale Hollow, Kentucky.

  • William F. Butcher, 77

    WARSAW, Ky. – William F. Butcher, 77, of Carrollton died Dec. 15, 2008, at the Gallatin Health Care.

    Graveside services were held Dec. 20 at the Owenton Cemetery. Mr. Butcher’s son, the Rev. Steve Butcher, officiated.

    Mr. Butcher was born April 20, 1931, in Carrollton to the late William N. and Mattie (Hunt) Butcher.

    He was a farmer and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He served in the Korean War.

  • David Edwin Dean, 62

    MILTON, Ky. – David Edwin Dean, 62, of Milton died Jan. 3, 2009, in Madison, Ind.

    Funeral services are 1 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 8, at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, 213 Fifth St., Carrollton, with the Rev. Jerry Ison officiating.

    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. Wedensday, Jan. 7, at the funeral home. Burial will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Carrollton.

    Mr. Dean was born May 31, 1946, in Gallatin County, Ky., to the late Thomas and Sylvia (Julick) Dean.

    He was owner of the Tri-State Window Cleaners for 40 years. He enjoyed fishing.

  • Earl Voyles Sr., 90

    CANNAN, Ind. – Earl Voyles Sr., 90, died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the Waters of Clifty Falls, Madison, Ind.

    Funeral services  were Saturday, Jan. 3, at Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, with Pastor Ed Roberts officiating. Burial was in Grandview Memorial Gardens near Madison.

    Mr. Voyles was born May 9, 1918, in Ramsey, Ind., to the late William R. and Laura (Routh) Voyles.

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Mary Lou Stewart of Carrollton died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at her residence.

    Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 2, at the Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, with the Rev. Chris White officiating. Burial was in I.O.O.F. Cemetery, Carrollton.

    Mrs. Stewart was born in Carrollton to the late Buchanan and Emma Lou (Adams) Courtney.

    She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Carrollton.

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Mary Alice Froman, 93, of Carrollton died Tuesday, Dec. 30, 2008, at the Richwood Nursing Facility in La Grange, Ky.

    Funeral services were Friday, Jan. 2, at the Carrollton Christian Church, with Dr. Bob Brocious officiating. Burial was in the Ghent Masonic Cemetery, Ghent, Ky.

    Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, was in charge of arrangements.

    Mrs. Froman was born June 21, 1915, in Carrollton to the late Americus V. and Lou (Ford) Carlisle.

    MADISON, Ind. – Dustin Smith, 23, of Madison died Saturday, Jan. 3, 2009, at the Riley Hospital for Children, Indianapolis, Ind., after a long battle with bone cancer.

    Funeral services are 11 a.m. today, Wednesday, Jan. 7, at the Morgan andNay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, with Pastor Ron Lee officiating.

    Visitation will start at 9 a.m. until the time of the service Wednesday. Burial will be in Mt. Pleasant Cemetery near Canaan, Ind.

  • Charles J. Sargent, 70

    Charles J. Sargent, 70, Milton, died Sunday, Jan. 4, 2009 at his residence.

    Born Jan. 2, 1939 in St. Louis, Mo., he was the son of Charles T. and Margaret Schmidt Sargent.

    He enjoyed motorcycles, model trains and Corvettes. He retired from Rexnord after 20 years of service and later worked for Wheeler Oil Company.
