• Alexander W. Merola, 78

    Alexander W. Merola, 78, of Bedford died Monday June 8, 2009, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange, Ky.

    Mr. Merola was born April 10, 1931, in Hazelton, Pa., to the late Alexander and Anna Marie Merola.

    He served in the U.S. Air Force; he was honorably discharged Feb. 20, 1956.

    He was a member of Masonic Lodge Nos. 711 and No. 158. He was mayor of Colwyn, Pa., from 1985-89.

    He attended Hickory Grove United Methodist Church in Bedford and enjoyed woodworking.

  • Barbara Jane Adkins, 56

    FLAT ROCK, Ind. - Barbara Jane Adkins, 56 of Flat Rock, died May 2, 2009, at her home.

    Funeral services were held May 5 at Freeman Family Funeral Homes and Crematory, at 819 S. Harrison St. in Shelbyville, Ind. with  Rev. Chris Craig and Pastor Dean Adkins officiating. Burial was in the St. Joseph Cemetery in Shelbyville.

    Mrs. Adkins was born Sept. 21, 1952, in Sanders, Ky. to the late Mr. and Mrs. Herman Wilson and was adopted by the late Billy J. and Mary Jane Oldham.

  • Barbara Kay Williams, 60

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Barbara Kay Williams, 60, of Carrollton died, Tuesday, June 9, 2009, at Carroll County Hospital in Carrollton.

    A memorial  service was held on Friday, June 12 at the Carrollton Christian Church, 310 Fifth St., in Carrollton with Dr. Bob Brocious officiating. A graveside service was in the Corinth Cemetery in Corbin, Ky.

    Tandy, Eckler and Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., in Carrollton was in charge of arrangements.

    Ms. Williams was born Aug. 31, 1948, in Corbin, to the late Willard Clayton and Grace Kathleen Peterson Williams.

    ELIZABETH, Ind. – Janet Marie Sellers, 68, died Sunday, June 14, 2009, at her residence.

    Funeral services will be held at Coots funeral Home, 120 W. Maple St., Jeffersonville, Ind., Thursday, June 18 at 1:00 p.m. with Rev. Frank Pendleton officiating. Burial will be in the Utica Cemetery located in Utica, Ind.

    Visitation will be held at the funeral home, today, Wednesday, June 17 from 4:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. and again Thursday from 9:00 a.m. until time of service.

    WARSAW, Ky. – Elinor Mae Sampson, 76, of Warsaw, died Saturday, May 23, 2009, at the St. Elizabeth Health Care Center of Florence, Ky.

    Funeral services were held at the Garnett, New, McDonald Funeral Home, 108 E. Main St., in Warsaw with Bro. Denny French and Dot Perkins officiating. Burial was in the Warsaw Cemetery.

    Mrs. Sampson was born March 7, 1933, in Carroll County to the late Henry and Freida Fortner O’Donovan.

    She was a retired employee of the Gallatin County Board of Education and a member of the Warsaw Christian Church.

  • Minnie Lawson, 94

    Minnie Lawson, 94, of Milton, Ky., died Tuesday, June 16, 2009, at her residence.

    Services are 11 a.m. Saturday, June 20, at Wood-Oakley Funeral Home in Milton, with burial in Moffett Cemetery in Milton. Visitation is 5-8 p.m. today, Friday, June 19, and from 9 a.m. tomorrow until the service.

    Mrs. Lawson was born Oct. 8, 1914, in Morgan County, Ky., to the late Leslie and Leota White Craft. She attended Hanover Apostolic Church. She enjoyed reading her Bible and spending time with her family.

  • Doris Catherine Thomas Pommerehn, 86

    Doris Catherine Thomas Pommerehn, 86, Madison, Ind., died Thursday, June 4, 2009, at Hickory Creek in Madison.

    Mrs. Pommerehn was born in Madison to the late Graham and Margaret Corrie Thomas.

    She attended Madison High School. She lived in Madison and Cincinnati in her early years. She was raised in the North Madison Baptist Church.

    After her marriage, she moved to the Dominican Republic, where she and her husband lived from 1949-53. She served in the auditor’s office at the Jefferson County Courthouse for many years.

  • Elizabeth Ann Moore Lewis, 39

    CAMBY, Ind. – Elizabeth Ann Moore Lewis, 39, of Camby died Tuesday, June 2, 2009, in Trimble County, Ky.

    Cremation was chosen by the family. A memorial service will be held at a later date. Graham-Dunn Funeral Home 213 Fifth St., Carrollton, Ky., is in charge of arrangements..

    Ms. Lewis was born Sept. 4, 1969, in Indianapolis, Ind., to Jerry and Carol Moore.

    Survivors include her parents; her husband, Richard Scott Lewis; and four sisters, Melinda Kuhns, Diana Cochran, Darlena Humble and Vickie Thrasher.

  • Gloria A. Schwab, 74

    Gloria A. Schwab, 74, of Louisville, Ky., died May 20, 2009, at the Masonic Home in Louisville.

    Services were May 21 at Herman Meyer and Son Funeral Home, 1338 Ellison Ave., Louisville.

    She was born Feb. 17, 1935. She was a retired sales associate with Bacon’s and Dillard’s department stores.  She was a member of Congregation Anshei Sfard, B’nai Brith and Hadassah in Louisville.
