    SANDERS, Ky. – Helen Virginia Edens, 89, died Friday, Oct. 17, 2008, at St. Elizabeth South Hospital in Edgewood, Ky.

    Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 20, at McDonald-New Funeral home, 202 N. Main St., Owenton, Ky., with Susan Bryan and Hardin Lowe officiating. Burial was in the Owenton Cemetery.

    Mrs. Edens was born Aug. 25, 1919, to the late Robert Sayle and Mary Virginia (Bourne) Garvey in Sanders.

    She was a postal clerk in Sanders from 1985-2001. She also worked as a beautician.

    Mrs. Edens was a member of  Sanders Baptist Church.

    Born April 3, 1960 in Madison, she was the daughter of Leroy “Lee” and Betty Canfield Hockensmith. A lifelong resident of Madison she attended the Dupont Baptist Church for several years as a child. She was an employee of the former Hook’s Drug Store for 15 years. She became a licensed hairstylist and worked for The Hair Shak for 10 years.

    Dolores L. Maddox, 78, of Hanover, Ind., died Tuesday, July 22, 2008 at the Hanover Nursing Center in Hanover.

    Born July 18, 1930 in Louisville, she was the daughter of John M. and Olivia M. Morgan Coons. She graduated from North Madison High School and worked for many years as bookkeeper for the former Jay’s Market in Madison.

    She was a member of the New Prospect Baptist Church near Hanover.

    He was a member of Masonic Lodge No. 134, Carrollton. He was a veteran of the U.S. military, having served in Vietnam. He was a recipient of the Purple Heart.

    Services are 11 a.m. today at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, with the Rev. Anthony Pierce officiating. Burial will be in the Spring Hill Cemetery in Harrodsburg, Ky.

    Mrs. Moore was born April 26, 1925, in Willisburg, Ky., to the late Garnette Belt and Nina Mae (Robinson) Johnson.

    She was a homemaker, and a member of the New Castle Christian Church in New Castle, Ky.

    She was of the Baptist faith and was a devoted mother. She enjoyed spending time with her family and friends and traveling.

    Survivors include one daughter, Socorro Harmon, Fort Mitchell; two sons, Alfred (Lana) Harmon, Nippa, Ky. and Louis Hardin (Penny) Harmon, Bedford; a grandson, Joshua Louis Harmon and several nieces and nephews.
