  • James Elmer Montgomery, 79

    CARROLLTON, Ky – James “Jim” Montgomery, 79, of Carrollton died Friday, Oct. 31, at Carroll County Memorial Hospital.

    Funeral services were Monday, Nov. 3, at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, 213 Fifth St., Carrollton, with Pastor Bobby Wade officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

    Mr. Montgomery was born in Mercer County on May 2, 1929, to the late Bill and Catherine (Smith) Montgomery.

  • Ouida B. Johnson, 67

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Ouida B. Johnson, 67, died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast, La Grange, Ky.

    Funeral services were Tuesday, Oct. 28, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, with the Rev. Howard Wade officiating.

    Mrs. Johnson was born March 29, 1941, in Turners Station to the late William and Mary Elizabeth (Diarmit) McDole.

    She was employed at various factories, and enjoyed making crafts.

  • Wanda L. Mitchell, 78

    CAMPBELLSBURG, Ky. – Wanda L. Mitchell, 78, died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Signature Healthcare of Trimble County in Bedford, Ky.

    Visitation is 9-11 a.m. today, Wednesday Oct. 29, at Ransdell Funeral Home, Bedford, followed immediately by the funeral service, with the Rev. Carl Rucker officiating. Burial will be in Moffett Cemetery, Milton, Ky.

    Mrs. Mitchell was born Feb., 9, 1930, in Bedford to the late James E. and Della Mae (Welch) Kendall.

  • Talmadge G. Howard, 83

    DRENNON, Ky. – Talmadge G. "Jake" Howard, 83, of Drennon died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Oak Tree Hospital of Baptist Northeast in La Grange, Ky.

    The funeral is 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Sholar Funeral Home, 5710 Castle Hwy., Pleasureville, Ky., with Brothers Ralph Slone Sr., Ralph Slone Jr., Eddie Slone and Clinton Holland officiating. Burial will be in Franklinton Cemetery in Henry County.

    Mr. Howard was born in Knott County to the late Sam and Bessie (Calhoun) Howard.

  • Gail Jay Smith, 56

    DEPUTY, Ind. – Gail Jay Smith, 56, of Deputy died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at King’s Daughter’s Hospital and Health Services, Madison, Ind.

    Visitation will be 2-4 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 1, at the Wood-Oakley Funeral Home,  37 High Street, Milton, Ky., with the funeral following immediately.

    Mr. Smith was born Sept. 4, 1952, in Mio, Mich., to Dora (Lake) and the late John Smith.

    He was a truck driver for Daveco Farms and was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in the Vietnam War.

  • Beatrice Oak Hamilton, 93

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Beatrice “Dill” Oak Hamilton, 93, of Carrollton died Friday, Oct. 24, 2008, at King’s Daughter’s Hospital in Madison, Ind.

    Funeral services were Monday, Oct. 27, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton, with the Rev. Eric Newcomer officiating. Burial was in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Carrollton.

    Mrs. Hamilton was born April 13, 1915, in Carrollton to the late Jesse E. and Mary Ellen (Sutherland) Oak.

  • Janet Ainslie Somerville Ewing, 104

    MADISON, Ind. – Janet Ainslie Somerville Ewing, 104, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at her home in Madison.

    Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 25, at Morgan and Nay Funeral Center, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Ind., with the Revs. Aaron O’Dell and J.L. Ewing officiating. Burial was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bedford, Ky.

    Mrs. Ewing was born Dec. 2, 1903, in Trimble County to the late George and Mary Virginia (Wood) Somerville. She lived most of her life in Trimble County, moving to Madison in 1987.

  • Mable Betty Boaz, 89

    MILTON, Ky. – Mable Betty Boaz, 89, Milton, died Sunday, Oct. 26, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast Hospice Unit in La Grange, Ky.

    Mrs. Boaz was born born April 6, 1919, in Carroll County to the late Spencer and Esther Wheeler Maxwell.

    She was a homemaker, enjoyed working with flowers and being with her family.

    Survivors include a son, Raymond Boaz, Milton; a daughter, Nellie Boaz, Milton; two sisters, Margaret Polley, Milton, and Mary Jacobs, Madison, Ind.; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

  • Arlie B. Whitaker, 77

    LEXINGTON, Ky. – Arlie B. Whitaker of Lexington died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, in Thomson-Hood Veterans Center, Wilmore, Ky.

    Funeral services were Saturday at Morgan and Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison,

    Ind., with Lt. John Rudd officiating. Full military honors were conducted at the graveside by The Ceremonial Unit from Fort Knox and Jefferson County, Ind., Post No. 9 of the American Legion.

    Masonic services were conducted Friday by the Dupont Masonic Lodge No. 419 at the funeral home. Burial was at the Dupont Cemetery, Dupont, Ind.

  • Aaron Austin, 97

    MARIEMONT, Ohio – Aaron Austin, 97, of Mariemont died Thursday, Aug. 21, 2008.

    Mr. Austin served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Pacific Theatre during World War II.

    Survivors include his wife, Ruth Austin, a resident of New Horizons Assisted Living in Carrollton, Ky.; a daughter, Elaine Friday;  and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by his first wife, the former Ruby Wade; a son, Myron Austin; and two sisters, Pearl Weissman and Selma Zeff.
