• William B. Long, Sr., 82

    William B. Long, Sr., 82, New Castle, died Thursday, Dec. 18, 2008 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.

    He was the son of the late Austin and Mary Elizabeth Simpson Long.

    He was a World War II United States Navy veteran and retired from the Henry County Road Department in 1998 after 41 years of service. He was a member of the LaGrange Congregation of Jehovah’s Witness.

    EMINENCE, Ky.- Wesley Morrison, 72, of Eminence died Wednesday, Dec. 17, 2008 at the Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange, Ky.

    Funeral services were Saturday, Dec. 20 at Sholar Funeral Home 5710 Castle Highway, Pleasureville, Ky. with Herb Kinman and Bro. Bill Waugh officiating. Burial was in the Eminence Cemetery.

    Mr. Morrison was born to the late Frank and Gertrude Morrison.on May 15, 1936 in Carroll County.

    Bessie C. Lucas, 86, Worthville, Ky., died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 at Signature Healthcare of Trimble County in Bedford.

    Born January 18, 1922, in Gallatin County, she was the daughter of Herbert and Hattie B. (Wheeler) Courtney.

    She was a member of Carrollton United Pentecostal Church and enjoyed spending time with her family. She also enjoyed flowers.

    She is survived by one daughter, Ramona (Kelly) Leach, Bedford; one son, Jimmy (Phyllis) Lucas, Carrollton; two sisters, Dorothy May Sharon, Worthville, Naomie Ruth Wainscott, Carrollton, and nine grandchildren.

    Robert Lindsey “Bob” Purvis, 78, Hanover, Ind. died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 in Hanover.

    Born Jan. 27, 1930 in Oldham County, he was the son of Charles W. and Margaret Maddox Purvis.

    Graveside services are 11 a.m., Thursday, Dec. 18, at Ghent Masonoic Cemetery, Ghent, Ky., with the Rev. Miles Miller officiating.

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Ronald Jay “Ronnie” Nanny, 20, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2008, at the University of Louisville Hospital from injuries received in an automobile accident Dec. 10.

    Visitation is 11 a.m. until the service at 2 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Tandy-Eckler-Riley Funeral Home, 809 Highland Ave., Carrollton. Burial will be in the Carrollton I.O.O.F. cemetery.

    Mr. Nanny was born Aug. 16, 1988, in Dayton, Ohio, to John B. Watkins of Dayton and Peggy L. (Reynolds) Nanny of Worthville, Ky. He was a laborer.

    SANDERS, Ky. – Doug E. Manley, 47, died Saturday, Dec. 13, 2008, at his residence.

    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 17, at Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, 213 Fifth St., Carrollton. The funeral is Thursday, Dec. 18 at 2 p.m. at the funeral home, with the Rev. Pat Butcher officiating. Burial will be in the Owenton Cemetery.

    Mr. Manley was born July 4, 1961, to Eugene and Sylvia Manley. He attended school in Carroll County, Ky.

    He was a laborer for Becon Company in Trimble County. and was a member of the Sanders Baptist Church. He enjoyed hunting.

    WHEATLEY, Ky. – Lela Wilson, 103, of Wheatley died Sunday, Dec. 14, 2008, at her residence.

    Visitation is 4-8 p.m. today, Wednesday, Dec. 17, at McDonald and New Funeral Home, 209 N. Main St., Owenton, Ky.

    The funeral is 11 a.m. Thursday, Dec. 18, at the funeral home, with Bro. Matt Dye officiating. Burial will be in the Squiresville Cemetery.

    Mrs. Wilson was born Aug. 12, 1905, to the late Elmer and Ollia Breeden Herald in Owen County.

    She was a homemaker and a member of the Dallasburg Baptist Church.

    Zelma L. Downey Hambrick, 65, Bedford, died Friday, Dec. 5, 2008 in LaGrange.

    Born July 1, 1943 in Henry County, she was the daughter of Isham and Martha Jane Newman Downey.

    She enjoyed working crossword puzzles and tending to her flower gardens.

    Survivors include her husband, Sam Hambrick, Bedford; one son, Samuel E. Hambrick, Shelbyville; three sisters, Shirley Roberts, Bedford, Virgie Downey, Bedford, and Peggy Garret, Louisville.

  • Martha Eloise Walker Kelly, 67

    CARROLLTON, Ky. – Martha Eloise Walker Kelley, 67, died Tuesday, Dec. 2, 2008, in Carrollton.

    Funeral services were Friday, Dec. 5, at the Graham-Dunn Funeral Home, 213 Fifth St., Carrollton,  with the Rev. Russell Walker officiating. Burial was in Carrollton I.O.O.F. Cemetery.

    Mrs. Kelly was born on July 20, 1941, in Carrollton to the late James Milton and Mary Rea (Nevils) Walker. She was a homemaker.

    Survivors include a son Ronald Dean Robertson of Milton, Ky.; three grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and 11 brothers and sisters.
