  • Angela Stethen has achieved the designation of dean’s scholar at Western Kentucky University for the Fall 2010 semester. This honor is given to students who earn a grade average of 3.4-3.79.
    Stethen is a 2008 Trimble County graduate and is in her junior year at WKU, majoring in psychology. She is the daughter of Michael and Donna Stethen of Bedford and the granddaughter of Elizabeth Middleton of Claymont, Del., and James and Mary Stethen of Bedford.

  • Students at Milton Elementary School recently jumped all over heart disease and stroke by participating in Jump Rope For Heart. The school had set a goal to raise $1,500 but far exceeded that goal, collecting a total of $7508.93 for the American Heart Association.

  • The Trimble County 4-H Communications Contest will be held on Thursday March 31, at 6 p.m. at the Trimble County Extension Office. This event is open to all Trimble youth ages 9 – 19. Partici-pants can phone 255-7188 by March 28.

  • Paige Laurel and Ethan Brock announce the birth of their sister, Emery Grace Heinz. Emery was born Jan. 8, 2011, at Baptist Hospital East in Louisville, Ky. She weighed 8 pounds, 13 ounces, and was 20 inches long.
    Parents are Bobby and Bree Heinz of Milton. Maternal grandparents are David and Teresa Ginn, also of Milton; paternal grandparents are John and Sandy Heinz, Milton. Maternal great-grandfather is Wyman Callis of Bedford.
     

  • Diana Arnold of Bedford has been appointed to serve District III on the Shelby Energy Cooperative's Board of Directors. District III encompasses Trimble County and portions of Carroll and Oldham counties.
    A graduate of Berea College, Arnold earned graduate hours from Eastern Kentucky University and the University of Louisville to complete her master's degree in teaching. She later attained Rank I, which included course credit for participation in HumBio Summer Institutes at Stanford University.

  • This tax season, many tax preparers will advertise instant money through tax refund advance services.  In reality individuals who receive a tax refund advance are borrowing money at a very high price. A tax refund advance is a short-term money advance, similar to a payday loan. Both tax refund and payday loans are some of the most expensive ways to borrow money. The Consumer Action website, reports annual percentage rates as high as 774 percent for tax refund advance loans.
