One of the most common New Year’s resolutions we make is to lose weight. Eating the correct portions of nutritious foods and engaging in physical activity are two keys to successful weight loss. One way that may help you keep your portions under control is to be mindful of what you eat.

Mindful eating means you eat slowly and enjoy your food with all your senses. When you are more mindful of what you eat, you may become more aware of when you become full, which prevents overeating.

  • For the past few years, Christmas hasn’t felt merry.

We’ve had some family struggles -- what family hasn’t at times? -- that have put a damper on our desire to celebrate. We didn’t even put up our Christmas tree the past two years.

However, this year my husband surprised me by bringing the tree down from the attic the day after Thanksgiving while I was at work.

He sent me a photo, which flipped a switch in my head. It hit a “hope” spot inside me, and I couldn’t wait to decorate it.

Living in a small town allows for a simple lifestyle filled with close friendly bonds. On Dec. 22, the fellowship of Bedford Christian Church epitomized the qualities of living in a small town while performing “When Christmas Left Rattler Canyon.”

  • Heroes come in all shapes and sizes. Throughout our journey we encounter a wide variety of people, places and lessons. Although many people are strangers passing by, others will uplift, encourage, inspire and motivate you. Dave Taylor is one of those people, who I classify as a hero.
