  • The Trimble County Apple Festival Committee will meet Tuesday, Jan 22 at 7 p.m. in the Trimble County Fiscal Court meeting room of the judge-executive’s office. This group is responsible for planning and organizing the popular event held on the courthouse square every September.

    Officer elections and committee chair positions will be appointed at this meeting, so anyone interested in joining a fun group and helping to plan a great local event is invited to join in. Everyone is welcome to attend.

  • One of the most common New Year’s resolutions we make is to lose weight. Eating the correct portions of nutritious foods and engaging in physical activity are two keys to successful weight loss. One way that may help you keep your portions under control is to be mindful of what you eat.

    Mindful eating means you eat slowly and enjoy your food with all your senses. When you are more mindful of what you eat, you may become more aware of when you become full, which prevents overeating.

  • With the price of corn around $7 per bushel, it may be surprising that there could be a more profitable alternative. But, with the price of certified organic corn in mid-December averaging $14.30 per bushel, producing certified organic corn deserves a good look, according to Lee Meyer, Extension agricultural Economist for the University of Kentucky.

    At an emergency meeting of the Trimble County School Board, Jan. 6, the boys’ basketball coach at Trimble County High School, Harold Taylor, was reinstated and then resigned. Taylor’s contract as teacher and coach had been suspended on Dec. 15, 1982.

    Louise Ginn was honored by the Trimble County Library Board on the occasion of her retirement after 11 years as Trimble County Librarian.

  • John Mark and Leslie Chilton, Campbellsburg, announce the birth of their daughter, Sarah Kate Chilton, on Nov. 6, 2012 at Baptist Hospital East.

    Sarah joins six-year-old sister Hannah and two-year-old brother Noah in the Chilton household.

    Maternal grandparents are Stephen and Becky Smith, LaGrange, and Becky Smith, Evansville, Ind. Paternal grandparents are Larry and Darlene Chilton, Campbellsburg. Great-grandparents include Myrtle Smith, Crestwood, and Roger and Virginia Powell, Florida.

  • Milton resident Hannah Hudson has achieved the University of Evansville Dean’s List for academic achievements during the Fall Semester 2012. Hudson is majoring in Science Education.

    To make the Dean’s List, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

    “At the University of Evansville, motivated students such as Hannah Hudson experience a challenging and collaborative learning environment and thrive under the guidance of talented faculty,” said UE President Thomas A. Kazee.
