  • Milton resident Hannah Hudson has achieved the University of Evansville Dean’s List for academic achievements during the Fall Semester 2012. Hudson is majoring in Science Education.

    To make the Dean’s List, a student at UE must earn at least a 3.5 grade point average on a 4.0 scale.

    “At the University of Evansville, motivated students such as Hannah Hudson experience a challenging and collaborative learning environment and thrive under the guidance of talented faculty,” said UE President Thomas A. Kazee.

    The Trimble County Board of Education meets at the School Administration Building on Wentworth Ave., 6 p.m.

    The Trimble County Lady Raiders basketball team hosts Carroll County. Varsity  game begins at 7:30 p.m.

    Monday, Jan. 21
    The Bedford City Commission will hold their monthly meeting at the Morgan Community Center at 10 a.m.

  • 50 years ago (Jan. 3, 1963)

    The January term of Trimble County Circuit Court convenes Monday morning (Jan. 7). Several matters are set for trial on the first day of court, all in variety: shooting with intent to kill, forgery, cemetery mutilation, robbery, etc., and Commonwealth’s Attorney James F. Thomas intimates that several other matters may be delved into during the scheduled time, such as settlements for damages caused in wrecks.

  • I have been asked to remind local farmers of the Natural Resources Conservation Service Farm Bill Program.

    The USDA-Natural Resources Conservation Service in Kentucky is encouraging landowners, farmers and producers to visit their local NRCS office now to receive information and apply for conservation technical assistance and possible financial funding opportunities.

  • Wednesday, Jan. 2
    Trimble County High School basketball teams host Oldham County in a varsity doubleheader. The boys’ varsity  game begins at 6 p.m. The girls’ varsity game starts at 8 p.m.

    The American Red Cross will have an Adult and Pediatric First Aid/CPR/AED class on January 3rd, 2013 at the Madison Area Chamber of   Commerce. The class will be held from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Advanced registration is required. Please visit http://www.redcross.org/ or call 1-800-733-2767 to register for this class.

  • To help with portion control, use the smallest plate that will hold your food.

    At mealtime, serve from the stove instead of putting a serving bowl on the table.

    Make double vegetables and serve them first, to take the focus off meat.

    Switch to whole wheat pasta.

    Eat vegetarian one night a week.

    Cut back on butter or margarine – newer whole-grain breads are tasty on their own.
