  • The membership of the Bedford Springs Church has announced a new beginning at the facility, located across Shepherd Lane from Signature Healthcare nursing home in Bedford.
    Pastor Nick and Glenna Coleman and the church family would like to extend an invitation to everyone to come join them in their services each Sunday at 6 p.m.

  • Poplar Ridge Baptist Church, located at 2475 Mt. Pleasant Road north of Bedford, will be holding revival services, beginning tomorrow, Sept. 26 and continuing through Sunday, Sept. 28. Services each evening will be held at 7 p.m.
    Sunday, Sept. 28, will be Homecoming Sunday at the church with a celebration during the 11 a.m. worship service of the congregation’s 157-year ministry of the Gospel.

  • Bedford City Commission is planning to hire a former employee to fill in for City Clerk Rita Davis on an as-needed basis.
    The commissioners plan to meet with Cindy Liter at the next meeting to discuss hiring her, possibly as an independent contractor, as an office assistant to work when Davis cannot be in the office. At that same meeting, they plan to interview prospective candidates for a maintenance position. That position is responsible for salting and clearing city streets in the winter and other duties.

  • You have probably heard me say this many times before, but fall is my favorite time of year. I enjoy the cool, crisp mornings, blue skies and the beautiful red, orange, yellow and burgundy of the tree leaves before they fall. Raking leaves, however, isn’t one of the activities on my bucket list.

  • Gilbert and Betty Heaton celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary on Saturday, Aug. 16.

    They were treated to a surprise dinner at Belterra Casino’s buffet with their children, Martha Carol and  Ronnie Hunt and Jackie and Trent Jeffries, and grandchildren Christopher Heaton and Sheena Jones, and Jordan Hunt and Autumn Edens, as well as their great-grandson, Braden Hunt.

    The couple was married Aug. 14, 1964, at Poplar Ridge Baptist Church. They have farmed and operated a dairy farm during their life together.
