William Oscar “Bill” Meeks, 71, of Madison, Ind. died Thursday, July 31, 2008 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville.

Born Jan. 11, 1937 in Henry County, he was the son of George Ebb and Jesse Warren Meeks. He was raised in Henry County and moved to Jefferson County, Ind. at the age of ten. He later moved to Switzerland County where he was a 1956 graduate of Vevay High School. He was baptized and a member of the Olive Branch Baptist Church. He was employed with Allied Ashland Oil Barge Company and Lowell Bliss Trucking for several years. He farmed near Glendale, Ky. and owned the Fairview Saw Mill for several years. He bought and sold horse drawn farm equipment, was a self-employed bulldozer operator and owner and distributor of Meeks Horse Medications. He enjoyed horses pulls, horse tracks and roiding horses with his friends. He enjoyed gardening and going to the sale barns. He was a member of the Switzerland County Saddle club, the Horse Trotters Association, and the U.S. Boer Goat Association.

Survivors include a son, Dallas Ray Meeks, Fairview, Ind.; three daughters, Pallas Kay Meeks, Brooksburg, Ind., Billie Carol (Shane Jackson) Ray, Vevay, Ind.; Emily Clare (David) Smith, Moorefield, Ind.; two sisters, Freida (George) Ellerbrook, Millington, Tenn., Alma Hall, Lexington, Ky.; six grandchildren; one great-grandson; close friends, Gwendolyn Ashby and Hannah Ashby, Madison, Ind.; several nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were Aug. 5, 2008 at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison with Pastor Mike Barnes officiating. Burial was in Macedonia Cemetery.
