Longtime Trimble County educator, coach and school administrator Vernon Craig was cited Friday for his lengthy tenure of service in another public capacity.

During a special meeting of Trimble County Fiscal Court Judge-Executive Randy Stevens read a proclamation expressing appreciation for Craig’s 25 years as a member of the Trimble County Board of Elections, from Nov. 18, 1985 to Dec. 31, 2010.

Glen Perkinson, the newest member of the Trimble County Board of Elections, had requested special recognition for Craig in honor of his lengthy tenure of service. Perkinson succeeded Craig on the Board of Elections.

“It’s about nine months overdue,” Stevens said. “I appreciate you staying on me,” he said to Perkinson, “and making sure that we didn’t overlook his years of service. I think 25 years of service in any public service deserves recognition, especially when it’s dealing with something as controversial as elections. In Trimble County I believe the whole time Vernon was involved we had very, very little to write about or read about in terms of illegitimate elections. Everything went according to plan and that’s a testament to all of that board.”

Stevens said “we’re going to properly frame it, record it in Jerry’s office as an order of the court so that it’ll be in the halls of history” before delivering the proclamation to Craig personally.
