-A A +A

By MICHAEL PYLES

Before I mention a couple of upcoming Extension educational programs, I just want you to know that the Trimble County Extension Office is now on Facebook. Check us out for additional Extension news and more information about future programs.
Fruit Tree Pruning Demonstration:
Would you like to learn more about pruning your own fruit trees at home? Then plan to attend our pruning demonstration at the farm of Sonia McElroy and Ed Akers at 412 Leeport Road, Milton, on Saturday, March 12, 2011 at 9:00 a.m. We will talk about choosing the right pruning tools, recommended fruit tree varieties, fruit tree care and the proper way to prune apples, peaches, pears and plum trees. Hope to see you there! Leeport Road is located in Milton, Kentucky off Milton-Bedford Pike. You can access Milton-Bedford Pike from Hwy 421N in Bedford at the Crossroads intersection or from Hwy 421N in Milton at the Lions Club curve. Either access you choose, travel approximately 2 miles to Leeport Road which enters from the west side of the road.
Forestry and Wildlife Program: Woodland management – what is it? For different woodland landscapes it can mean different things. For different woodland owners the complexity of management options increases. To answer those questions that a Kentucky woodland owner might have about the specifics on how to manage the woodland segments of your property, attend the Ohio River Valley Woodlands and Wildlife Workshop being held on March 26, 2011 at General Butler State Resort Park in Carrollton. Many times during our management discussions we begin asking ourselves the question, “What’s next?” This one day workshop will provide you with forestry and wildlife experts from Indiana, Kentucky, and Ohio who will address the questions and concerns that you have with management of your property. The program cost is $40 per person prior to March 16th ($50 after) Registration includes program materials and buffet lunch. The program agenda runs from 9am to 4pm. Agenda highlights and speakers can be found at www.tristatewoods.org. Additional information can be found at the website as well as calling 859.257.7597.
