United Charities kicks off 2012 fundraising campaign

“Reaching out, Sharing all, Changing lives” is the Ohio Valley United Charities, Inc., theme for its 2012 Fundraising Campaign it launched this month as it seeks financial support for twenty-four (24) area charities for grants totaling $90,000.00. 

In operation since 1998, the non-profit organization composed of volunteers from Carroll, Gallatin, Henry, Owen and Trimble counties seeks pledges and donations from area businesses and industries that helps designated charities give back services to the community.

Services funded for area charities include:

*“Meals on Wheels” for the elderly;

*Food, medical services and temporary shelter for the needy;

*Rape and sexual abuse counseling;

*After school and mentoring programs for children;

*Teaching reading skills to adults;

*Children’s summer library reading programs; and,

*Vocational counseling and training for unemployed.

Gallatin Steel General Manager Mark Santen launched the industrial giving to this year’s campaign when he presented a check for $15,000.00 to United’s Vice-President Malcolm Carraco on Monday from the corporation.

“We are pleased to be a part of this organization by giving to its worthy causes because it does so much for this community,” Mr. Santen explained.

Trimble County organizations receiving funding for 2012 include: Good News Shelter Corporation; Tri-County Community Action Agency; Trimble County High School PTSA.
