Trimble’s Runnin’ Raiders qualify for KHSAA state meet

Trimble County High School’s cross country team enjoyed an excellent showing at the Kentucky High School Athletic Association Class 1A Region 5 Cross County Championship Saturday. The event was held on the campus of Lexington Christian Academy in Lexington.

Trimble took first place in the boys’ competition with a score of 65 in the 5K run, out-pointing Sayre (68), Bracken County (84), Burgin (84), Danville (97), Owen County (132) and Lexington Christian (139).

Top runners for Trimble were senior Kevin Bailey, fifth place with a time of 17:16.7; sophomore Christian Apel, seventh, 17:19.9; sophomore Tray Robbins, 15th, 18:26.4; junior Kyle Puckett, 17th, 18:55.5; sophomore Connor Ball, 21st, 19:09.1; junior Reese True, 29th, 19:42.6; and eighth grader Brennan Kunkel, 40th, 20:51.8.

Trimble’s girls took second place behind Sayre High School in the girls’ competition. Scoring 37 points the Lady “Runnin’ Raiders” were only four points shy of a tie with Sayre. Bracken County was third with a score of 67. Carroll County finished in fourth place with a score of 88.

Freshman Kylie Wilberding finished sixth overall to set the pace for Trimble’s runners. Wilberding finished with a time of 20:41.3. Other Trimble runners included eighth grader Kirsten Baird, eighth, 20:08.1; eighth grader Morgan Chappell, ninth, 21:28.1; sophomore Erin Gonterman, 10th, 21:55.5; freshman Emily Tingle, 16th, 23:11.8; senior Hannah Davis, 17th, 23:24.7; sophomore Olivia Cooley, 30th, 25:19.6.

Trimble’s runners will compete in the KHSAA State Cross Country Championship on Saturday, Nov. 12, at the Kentucky Horse Park in Lexington.

Trimble’s boys will compete in the Class 1A Championship meet beginning at 9:30 a.m. A total of 220 boys qualified to compete in the Class 1A event.

Trimble’s girls will compete in the Class 1A Championship meet beginning at 10:15 a.m. A total of 165 girls qualified to compete in the Class 1A event.
