Trimble County High School’s doubles pairing of Alex Lawhorn and Micah Hess won the girls’ doubles tournament in the North Central Kentucky Conference Meet, held at the Trimble Athletic Complex over the weekend. Overall, however, Carroll County emerged victorious in the team competition in both girls’ and boys’ action.
Lawhorn and Hess defeated Gallatin’s pairing of Bond/Merdia in the opening round by scores of 6-1, 6-1. In the next round, Lawhorn and Hess defeated Carroll County’s Taylor Courtney and Jessi Dermon, 6-4, 7-6, 10-7. Lawhorn and Hess defeated Carroll’s Kendall Conley and Emilee Walker, 6-0, 6-0 to claim the championship.
Trimble’s second doubles pairing of Whitney Wingham and Diane Payton drew a bye in the first round of competition. They were defeated by Carroll’s pairing of Conley and Walker in the second round by scores of 7-5, 5-7, 10-7.
In girls’ singles action, Trimble’s Kim Abbett was defeated in the first round by Gallatin County’s Alex Johnston, 6-3, 6-0; and Destiny Harp defeated Carroll’s Ashley Davidson, 6-2, 2-6, 10-3. Harp was defeated in the second round by Gallatin’s Shelby Ackerman, 6-0, 6-0. Carroll’s Sarah Carter defeated Ackerman for the singles championship.
Boys NCKC results
In boys’ singles action, Trimble’s Alex Dixon drew a bye in the first round and was defeated in the second round by Gallatin’s Trevor Lewis, 6-1, 6-1. Trimble’s Kenny Payton was defeated in the first round by eventual boys’ singles champion Joe Gemmer of Carroll County, 6-0, 6-0.
Trimble’s Chris Weaver and Michael Ely drew a bye in the boys’ doubles first round and were defeated in round two by eventual doubles champions Noah Abercrombie and Dakota Corbin of Carroll County, 6-0, 6-0. Trimble’s Nathan Gibson and Cody Johnson fell to Gallatin’s doubles pairing of Wright/Carlton in first round action by scores of 6-0, 6-0.
