The Tri-County Community Action Agency (TCCAA) has served Henry, Oldham and Trimble Counties for 42 years with the promotion of self-sufficiency programming. Community Actions are designed to identify needs of communities and to annually design plans to address those needs.
TCCAA is part of a national movement created in 1964 with passage of the Economic Opportunity Act. There are 23 community action agencies for Kentucky, and some 1,000 community action agencies serve every county in every state. Areas of services addressed include: employment, education, income management, housing, emergency services, and, nutrition, health and self sufficiency. Overrall, 42 percent of services are for 60 and older people, while about 58 percent 0f programing is geared for any age and addresses self sufficiency.
TCCAA representative Joan Miles went on to explain many specific actions undertaken by TCCAA including: provision of federal funding, home energy assistance, weatherization of homes for energy conservation, home delivered meals, services for the aging, home care, transportation, friendly visiting, telephone reassurance, adult day care, and senior life enrichment programs.
Recently, TCCAA is focusing more on substance abuse issues, a growing problem in Kentucky and the nation. Their program is called COMPASS.  TCCAA collaborates with the county judge-executives, meets with District and Circuit Court judges, participates in community forums, and focuses on expanding information and referral services to help individuals and families locate the substance use services they need.
More future actions will expand home repair/home rehabilitation services, increase COMPASS programs, and participate more in community planning to identify further needs and to capitalize on opportunities for new partnerships.
