Boys, girls beat Shelby County

The Lady Raiders girls’ tennis team had a great start with the first tennis match of the season by bringing home a match win of 4-1 against Shelby County Rockets.

Shelby County defaulted their third singles to hand Trimble the first win. Trimble’s No. 1 Singles, Kasi Fogle, “played an awesome 3 set match,” according to Coach Vanita Fogle, defeating Patty Dempsey of the Rockets. “Kasi showed her ability on how to execute the volley game to appoach the net at the right time to be rewarded with the game point on a consistent basis,” Coach Fogle said. “The younger players and the spectators and parents of Shelby County enjoyed watching someone play as well as Kasi did Friday.

No. 2 singles Kalee Cook was defeated by Micah Roughton by 0-6,0-6 match score but showed the potential and determination to take on this position and fight point for point to become a winning player, Fogle said.

No. 1 doubles partners Micah Hess and Alex Lawhorn showed they are definitely working well together by defeating their opponents, Rachel Travis and Haley Coffey of the Rockets with a match win and Haley Coffey of the Rockets with a match win of 6-3, 6-3. Elisabeth Moore and Sabrina Vest defeated Amanda Masterson and Kare Mendez and played in sync with each other to get the match win of 6-0, 6-0.

Trimble’s returning players are “really showing their knowledge of the game and their maturity of becoming veteran players and this was a great thing for their coach to see,” Fogle said. “We are definitely on target to a great varsity season this year.”

Boys play well at Shelby

The Trimble County Raiders boys’ tennis team had a great first match Friday with a doubles win from Damon Copeland and Reese True defeating Alex Workman and Jordan Morris of the Shelby Rockets with a match score of 6-3, 6-0.

“Damon and Reese work well together and both have a great ability of moving from baseline to net in a quick motion to make great shots and catch their opponents off guard to win their games,” Coach Vanita Fogle said.

No. 1 singles Nick Kleinhenz was defeated by Michael Karas of Shelby County with a match score of 1-6, 0-6 but it was not an easy feat for Shelby because “Nick worked hard and had a lot of great shots,” Fogle said.

No. 2 Singles Dylan Stethen was defeated by Jaron Russell with a match score of 4-6, 1-6, but “Dylan has the determination to learn to close out his games more,” Fogle said.
“Dougie Tilley, a Trimble County Middle School 6th grader, played 3rd singles and “did a great job for his first time out” to learn more on how to play a match, Fogle said. Doug Martin defeated him with a 0-6, 0-6 match score.

“The boys and I, as their coach for this year, are looking forward to a season we know is going to be great,” Fogle said.
