DRENNON, Ky. – Talmadge G. "Jake" Howard, 83, of Drennon died Saturday, Oct. 25, 2008, at Oak Tree Hospital of Baptist Northeast in La Grange, Ky.

The funeral is 1 p.m. today, Wednesday, Oct. 29, at the Sholar Funeral Home, 5710 Castle Hwy., Pleasureville, Ky., with Brothers Ralph Slone Sr., Ralph Slone Jr., Eddie Slone and Clinton Holland officiating. Burial will be in Franklinton Cemetery in Henry County.

Mr. Howard was born in Knott County to the late Sam and Bessie (Calhoun) Howard.

He served in the U.S. Navy as a firefighter; he was employed at the Old Glove and Brite Lites II  tobacco warehouses and was a groundskeeper for 27 years at Glenwood Hall Country Club/Perry Park Golf Resort in Perry Park, Ky. He was a retired farmer.

He was a member of the Little Mary Old Regular Baptist Church in Shelbyville, Ky.

Survivors include his wife, Joy Lee (Sparks) Howard of Drennon; a son, Robert Dean Howard of Drennon; two sisters, Dorothy Ramsey of  Sharon, Pa., and Glenna Pine of Hindman, Ky.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, Sam, Tounsel and Clarence Howard.

Pallbearers are Darrell Abbott, Rick Baker, John Davidson, Mark Eddins, Travis Eddins and Mike Fisher.

Honorary pallbearers are Charles Adams, John Adams, Taylor Couch, Steve Cravens, Ronnie Eddins, Charlie Gay, Earl Holmes, Jr., Jimmy James, Bobby Jones, Dr. Kemparajurs, Bobby Joe Quickert, Jerry Sharp, Vernon Sharp and Joe Stewart.
