Look for Trimble County High School’s track program to ascend to a new level of achievement in 2011. Head Coach Jeff Vincent is very positive about both the girls’ and the boys’ track programs.
“I’m pumped about this season,” he said in answering a preseason questionnaire. “Our goals include winning the NCKC, NCKTC, and Regional Championship and sending as many kids as possible to the state meet. Not only do we want to make it to state, we want to make noise there too. It should be a very fun season.”
Trimble “made noise” last season in what Vincent called “a breakout season for both the girls’ and boys’ teams.” Trimble sent 26 athletes to the state meet.
Girls’ highlights from a year ago included NCKTC Conference Runner-up, Regional Runner-up which was the first regional trophy in school history, the 4x800m team was Regional Runner-up and sixth at the state meet, the 4x200m team was Regional Runner-up, and the girls qualified for the state in 4x800, 100m, 4x200m, 1600m, 300m hurdles, 800m, 3200m, pole vault, triple jump and high jump.
Individual accomplishments included Kelsie Courtney who won the region in the high jump and pole vault and was runner-up in the 300m hurdles. Courtney placed fourth in the state in pole vault and 11th in high jump. Erin Gonterman was Regional Runner-up in the 800m and 13th at the state meet. Danyal Adams was third in the region in the 100m hurdles and discus. She was regional pole vault runner-up and finished fifth in the state meet
Boys’ team highlights included third place in the NCKTC and Regional, the 4x100m team was Regional Runner-up and sixth at the state meet, the 4x800m team was Regional Champs and ninth at the state meet, the 4x400m team enjoyed a third place finish in the regional and the team qualified for state in the 100m, 4x800, 4x200, 1600m, 4x100m, 800m, 3200m, 4x400m, pole vault, and high jump.
Individual achievements: Taylor Ball was Regional Champ in the 800m, Mike Baird was Regional Runner-up in the 800m, Justin Perkins was Regional Runner-up in the 1600m, Matt Stethen was Regional Runner-up in pole vault and Stuart Barnes placed third in the region at high jump.
Top returning athletes on this year’s girls’ team include Kelsie Courtney, Danyal Adams, Erin Gonterman, Jessica Cooley, Brandi Chappell, Olivia Cooley, and Jessie Smith.
“We have new girls out and many of our girls from last season have really worked hard. This is a very talented team,” Vincent said.
Top scorers who are returning for the boys are Stuart Barnes, Mike Baird and Zach Adair.
“Like the girls we have a ton of talented newcomers and returning kids,” Vincent said. “This group of guys has really worked hard to improve their speed and strength from last season.”
The coach listed the strengths of both rosters as being togetherness, dedication, coachable attitudes and hard work.
“This group is very focused and wants to be successful. With togetherness we create Synergy, which is all of us working to be one awesome force. We have a lot of fun too!”
