The fall sports season is right around the corner. As parents and high school students look ahead to the 2012-13 school year, student athletes will need a sports physical to participate in Kentucky High School Athletic Association-sanctioned sports. The same is true for high school students in Indiana.
The King’s Daughters’ Hospital is again asking parents to schedule a sports physical with their personal physician. The American Academy of Pediatrics recommends that all athletes receive a yearly checkup from their personal physician.
Parents and athletes are encouraged to schedule an appointment early—preferably in June or July. Students must provide a completed physical form before they can begin practice. If parents or students wait until August it might not be possible to schedule a physical before practice begins.
If a student athlete does not have a regular physician, KDH will help students find a provider. To make an appointment with a Pediatrician, call 812-273-5437. To locate a Family Practitioner, call 812-265-5211.
KDH will work with students to schedule an appropriate screening exam. Our goal is to provide a higher level of care, not limit anyone’s ability to play.
