Trimble County’s “Runnin’ Raiders” cross country team has gotten off to a rapid start competing in three events since the season-opening event at the St. X Tiger Run on Aug. 27.

Trimble was among 42 teams participating in the boys’ 5K at the event held at the Louisville Champions Park. There were 385 runners from schools of all sizes participating in the event. Trimble’s boys finished 27th. Trimble’s girls were among 31 teams participating in the girls’ 5K. A total of 289 runners competed. Trimble’s top competitor was Kylie Wilberding who finished 69th. The Lady Raiders finished 24th overall.

On Tuesday, Aug. 30, Trimble scored well in the North Central Kentucky Conference meet at Williamstown. Four schools showed for the event but only 10 runners competed in the girls’ 5K—eight of them from Trimble County. Trimble won the event by virtue of being the only school to field a complete team. Walton-Verona’s Madison Peace took first place overall with a time of 21:24.9. Individual achievements by the Lady Raiders included Kylie Wilberding, who finished second overall with a time of 22:17.6; Kirsten Baird, third, 24:16.9; Hannah Davis, fourth, 26:59.6; Emily Tingle, fifth, 28:05.9; Colyn True, seventh, 29:17.6; Olivia Cooley, eighth, 29:17.9; Morgan Chappel, ninth, 29:18.5; and Erin Gonterman, 10th, 29:19.1.

Trimble’s boys finished second behind Walton-Verona in the 5K varsity meet. Gallatin County and host Williamstown failed to field enough runners for team scores. Trimble placed four runners in the top 10 among 17 runners overall. Kevin Bailey finished second overall with a time of 18:52.0; Christian Apel, sixth, 19:35.7; Kyle Puckett, seventh, 19:35.9; and Tray Robbins, 10th, 20:11.2.

Trimble lacked enough competitors to achieve team scores in the 3200 Meter middle school run in both boys’ and girls’ competition. Brennan Kunkel was Trimble’s high finisher in the 3200, taking third overall with a time of 15:15.6. Johnathan Papai also finished in the top 10 for Trimble taking seventh with a time of 16:10.8.

In Saturday’s Shelby County Invitational, Trimble’s boys took sixth place among 11 teams. Trimble runners placed as follows: Christian Apel, 7th; Conner Ball, 19th; Kyle Puckett, 35th; Kevin Bailey, 48th; Tray Robbins, 49th; Reese True, 54th; Brennan Kunkel, 85th; and Corey Bailey, 91st.

Trimble’s girls placed 11th of 13 teams. Individual finishes for the Trimble ladies included Kylie Wilberding, 21st; Kirsten Baird, 40th; Erin Gonterman, 68th; Colyn True, 86th; and Hannah Davis, 82nd.
