Robert Lindsey “Bob” Purvis, 78, Hanover, Ind. died Saturday, Dec. 20, 2008 in Hanover.
Born Jan. 27, 1930 in Oldham County, he was the son of Charles W. and Margaret Maddox Purvis.
He resided his early life in Kentucky, but had spent most of his life in Jefferson County, Ind. He enjoyed farming, woodworking, his dog, fishing, reading his Bible and going to air shows. He was employed early in life at Standard Oil Service Station on Walnut Street and later worked for Madison Vending Company. He then owned and operated the Hanover Shell Station and owned Bob’s Vending from 1971-1982. He was a member of the First Christian Church of Hanover.
Survivors include his wife, Margaret A. Mahoney Purvis, Hanover; three sons, Terry Purvis, Hanover, Greg (Carol) Purvis, Hanover, and Troy (Jo) Purvis, Milton; two brothers, Charles (Dorothy) Purvis Jr., Milton, and Kenneth (Maddeline) Purvis, Madison, Ind.; grandchildren, Aaron, Stephanie, Jason, Josh and Cory; great-grandchildren, Aaliyah, Avery, Amber and Aariana; great-great-granddaughter, Destani, and several nieces, nephews and other relatives.
His parents, daughter, Linda, brother, Morris Purvis, and sisters, Mary Cooper and Ruby Wentworth, preceded him in death.
Funeral services will be today, Wednesday, Dec. 24, 2008, at 11 a.m. at Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre in Madison, Ind. Rev. Monty L. Mahoney will officiate.
Burial will be in Moffett Cemetery in Milton.
Visitation will be today from 9 a.m. until the time of service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre.
The family requests memorials to Hospice of King’s Daughters’ Hospital; contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
