Raider girls place third in Grant Co. all-comers

The Runnin’ Raiders competed last week in the Grant County All-Comers meet, which also included teams from Campbell County, Owen County, Villa Madonna, Walton-Verona, Bracken County, Scott High School, and St. Henry.  

The Lady Raiders pulled out a top three finish, placing third overall in the competitive meet and scoring a combined 93 points.  

The Lady Raiders had a strong start by winning the 4x800-meter and scoring 10 points with team members Jessica Cooley, Allison Joyce, Brandi Chappell, and Kelsie Courtney.

Danyal Adams took fourth place in the 100-meter hurdles and scored the team 4 points.  Jessie Smith placed third in the 100-meter, scoring six points for the team. Ashby Drake placed 14th and Colyn True, 23rd, in the 100-meter.

In the girls 4x200-meter, Kayla Barnes, Adams, Smith, and Eden Lacefield scored the six points for the team, finishing third overall.  In the 1,600-meter, Chappell placed first overall and scored 10 points. Cooley finished third scoring an additional six points. Also running in the 1,600-meter were Joyce, who placed fourth, and Erin Gonterman, fifth.

In the 4x100m relay, Jessica Ball, Drake, Olivia Cooley, and True placed seventh overall and scored two points for the team. In the 400-meter dash, Courtney finished fifth overall to score four points.  Eden Lacefield placed 12th overall. Lexi Roberts,  16th; and Olivia Cooley, 20th.  In the 300-meter hurdles, Smith placed ninth overall for one point; Drake placed 14th overall. In the 800-meter, Jessica Cooley placed fifth overall, scoring four points; Gonterman placed eighth for one point.

In the 200-meter, Lacefield placed ninth overall and scored one point.  Drake placed 15th; True, 18th; and Ball,  19th.  

In the 3,200-meter, Chappell placed first overall and scored 10 points.  Joyce placed second for eight points.  

In the 4x400-meter relay, Roberts, Jessica Cooley, Lacefield and Smith placed fourth and scored five points.  In the girls high jump, Kayla Barnes placed sixth overall and scored three points.  

In the long jump, Adams placed seventh overall and scored two points; Olivia Cooley placed 12th.  

In the triple jump, Adams placed sixth overall for three points;  Gonterman finished eighth overall for one point; and Olivia Cooley placed 10th.  

In the discus, Ball placed fifth and scored four points; in shot put, Ball also placed fifth for four points.  

Boys results

The Runnin’ Raiders boys’ team placed seventh overall, competing without several of their top performers. The boys scored a combined 52 points.  

In the 4x800-meter relay, Michael Baird, Justin Perkins, Kevin Bailey and Daryl Heveline placed third overall and scored six points.

In the 100-meter, Brody Newby broke a school record and placed fourth overall for five points;  Jonathon Wilson placed 22nd.

In the 110-meter hurdles, Michael Gonterman placed eighth overall for two points. In the 4x200-meter relay, Ben Newby, Brandon Melvin, Aaron Blanton and Jonathon Wilson placed seventh for two points.

In the 1,600-meter, Justin Perkins set a personal-best time by placing eighth overall, scoring one piont for the team.  Baird also set a new personal-best time,  placing 13th overall; Christian Apel placed 20th;  Chris Bailey finished 21st.

In the 4x100-meter relay, Ben Newby, Wilson, Blanton and Melvin placed ninth overall.

In the 400m, Brody Newby placed sixth overall and scored three points;  Justin Bailey placed 18th.

In the 300-meter hurdles, Gonterman placed ninth overall and scored one point; Wilson placed 14th.

In the 800-meter, Perkins placed ninth overall; Connor Ball placed 13th; Apel finished 14th; and Cory Bailey placed 21st.

In the 200-meter, Brody Newby placed seventh for two points; Barnes placed 10th; Blanton placed 22nd.

In the 3,200-meter, Baird placed fourth and for five points; Bailey placed seventh and scored two points.

In the 4x400-meter relay, Perkins, Ryan Durrett, Melvin and Barnes placed fifth and scored four points.

In the high jump, Barnes placed second and scored eight points; Durrett placed fifth for four points.

In the long jump, Barnes placed ninth; Gonterman placed 14th; and Blanton, 16th. In the triple jump, Durrett placed seventh for two points; Gonterman placed 10th; and Tray Robbins, 12th.  

In the discus, Ben Newby placed 12th; Ethen Plew, 18th; and Blake Newby, 19th. In the shot put, Durrett placed fifth for five points; Plew placed 18th; and Bailey,  22nd.  

The Runnin’ Raiders have a busy week coming up as they were to travel to Henry County yesterday after press time. On Thursday, the team travels to Walton-Verona for the North Central Kentucky Track Conference Championship.  

On Saturday, the team goes back to Walton-Verona for the Small School Clash.  The regional championship will be held in Danville on May 16.
