Operation Prom Dress event raises $500

Editor:

On Feb. 13, Operation Prom Dress hosted the Sweetheart’s Silent Auction at Butler Outlet Mall. The turnout was amazing, and we were able to raise more than $500. The Operation Prom Dress staff would like to take this opportunity to thank those who helped make this event a success.

First, thank you to the newspaper staff who wrote an inviting article about the auction to convince community members to stop by the event. Without even being asked, that article was printed in the River City Trading Post for nearly an entire month. Without this wonderful publicity, we wouldn’t have had nearly as many patrons participate in the fundraising event.

Secondly, we would like to extend a deeply grateful thank you to those who contributed items and/or baskets to the silent auction. Belterra Resort Casino and Spa donated a wonderful package for two, the staff from Carroll County Middle school donated a basket full of Avon goodies, Marie Hill from Cartmell Elementary School donated a basket filled with genuine Mardi Gras memorabilia, and many others donated their time and effort to make the auction run smoothly: Sheila Chowning, Colleen Ray, Danna Creager, Kala Garrett, and the many Butler Outlet Mall employees who lent their tables and support. Thank you all very much.

Lastly, Operation Prom Dress would like to thank everyone who stopped by the auction to place a bid and support our efforts to send every girl to prom. Because of the generous support from our community, we will have the means to purchase more dresses and have those dresses cleaned before our March 27 shop. We are so lucky to live in a community with people who care as much as you.

Our total dress count is now up to 85, which makes us very close to our goal of 100 dresses. We are confident that we will reach that goal before the shop. If you have items you would like to donate (dresses, shoes, purses, jewelry) please contact us at operationpromdress2010@yahoo.com or call (502) 686-0476. Keep your eyes open for more information about the Operation Prom Dress Shop, details are to come. Thank you again for your generous support of our efforts to make the dreams of prom a reality for all high school girls!
