Eighth-grader Miranda Combest was Trimble County’s top speller at the county Spelling Bee on Wednesday, Feb. 16. She beat out her sister, Jasmine Combest, who won the Milton Elementary Bee, and Landon Sutherland, who won the Bedford Spelling Bee. Trimble Banner editor Phyllis McLaughlin, who served as county coordinator this year, presented the award to Miranda, who moves on to challenge winners from across the Bluegrass at the Derby Festival Spelling Bee, set for 11 a.m. Saturday, March 19, in the PNC Club at Papa John’s Cardinal Stadium in Louisville, Ky.
