An elderly Milton resident was critically injured in an accident last week.

Eugene Broadus, 84, of School Hollow Road suffered extensive injuries Thursday, Sept. 25 when he was struck by a vehicle while crossing the road in Milton. The accident occurred near the intersection of Hwy. 421 and Ferry Street.

According to Trimble County Sheriff Tim Coons, Gary L. Gillespie, 65, of Carrollton, was attempting to turn left from Hwy. 421 onto Ferry Street when Broadus stepped from the curb into the path of the 1999 Dodge 3500 flatbed truck. Gillespie was unable to avoid hitting the man.

Broadus was transported to King’s Daughters Hospital in Madison, Ind. and later taken by StatCare to University Hospital in Louisville.

The accident remains under investigation by Coons, however no charges are expected.

Broadus was hospitalized for several days earlier this month following an accident while riding a motorized scooter, however Coons said he is unsure whether those injuries contributed to this incident.

Trimble County EMS, KDH EMS and Milton Fire & Rescue Department assisted at the scene.
