Laurence R. “Larry” Jeffries, 74, New Castle, died Friday, Nov. 7, 2008 at Baptist Hospital Northeast in LaGrange.
He was the son of the late Newt W. and Ruthanna (Adams) Jeffries Jr.
He was a farmer and retired as a teacher for the Henry County Schools. He was a United States Army veteran and a member of Point Pleasant Christian Church.
Survivors include his wife, Carolyn Jeffries, New Castle; three daughters, Rae Lynne (Charles) Morgan, Shelbyville, Janet (Jay) Stinebruner, Pendleton, Joy (Tim) Royalty, New Castle; a son Keith (Laura) Jeffries, New Castle; sisters, Willa (Barry) Paget, Nashville, Tenn., Brenda (Frank) Louden, Sulphur; brother Kenny (Mary Jo) Jeffries, New Castle; eight grandchildren, Dean Moffett, Savannah Diven Hall, Clint Diven, Derek Jeffries, Jackson Jeffries, Carlynne Morgan, Sam Royalty and Ella Royalty; and many nieces and nephews.
His parents, a sister and brother-in-law, Patsye and Ray Smith, and a brother, Shelby Jeffries, preceded him in death.
Services were Monday, Nov. 10, 2008 at Prewitt New Castle Funeral Home. Rev. Charlie Highfield, Campbellsburg, and Rev. Kenny Hardway, pastor of Point Pleasant Christian Church, officiated, with Steve Moore assisting.
Burial was in New Castle Cemetery.
Pallbearers were David Douglas, Jack Thurman, Clyde Morgan, Leonard Yount, John Warren Moody and Marvin Atchison.
Honorary pallbearers were Bob Anderson, Dr. Stan Hadley, Henry Stephenson, Terry Cummins, Bill Mathews, Jack Tracy, Joe Duff, Al Prewitt and Billy Wise.
Contributions may be given to the Relay for Life or the Point Pleasant Christian Church Building Fund.
Prewitt Funeral Home, New Castle, was in charge of arrangements.
