Following the Raiders’ win over the visiting Williamstown boys team on homecoming night, the Lady Raiders couldn’t rise to the occasion and fell 49-62 to the Lady Demons.

The Trimble girls took to the hardwood with excitement Saturday night, coming off a recent win against Henry County that garnered the team just their second win of the season.

As a very young team, the girls have improved their play steadily, looking much better on the court this weekend than their dismal 2-XX record shows.

All the girls are now playing basketball at a much higher level than they began the season, with the help of head coach Kerri Stewart. The coach has said the potential exhibited by this young ball club leads her to expect good things to come about in the future.

Early in Saturday’s game, the Williamstown team brought an intimidating energy, but that didn’t scare the Lady Raiders at all as they fought to stay in the game, down by just three, 14-11, after one quarter.

Junior Macy Mitchell and sophomore Raegan Black helped keep the Raiders on the offensive, posting four points each in the first quarter.

In the second period, the back and forth game slowed a little, as the Lady Demons got out in front and went on a small run. The Trimble team managed to slow them down near the end of the half, but ultimately was outscored 13-8 in the quarter. The trailed by 8 going into half, 27-19.

After the halftime break, the home team managed to get a spark back into their offense, thanks to Mitchell and Black, but couldn’t match up down the stretch on the defensive end. The Lady Raiders were outscored 17-12 in the third and continued to dig their own grave, going into the fourth quarter down 44-31.

In the final period of play, the Lady Raiders offense picked up, but the team seemed to struggle on the defensive end as Williamstown guard Tori Wilhoit scored 8 of her game high 21 in the quarter.

At the end of the fourth, the teams had posted 18 points a piece, closing out the game with a 13 point Lady Raider loss.

Along with Wilhoit’s 21, Lady Demon Jaclyn Stith scored 12 and Amber Vance and Susan Northcutt each put up 9 points.

For the Lady Raiders Mitchell had 19 points, 7 of which she dropped in the fourth quarter. Black ended the game with 10, Katie Callis had 7 and Hannah Davis provided help off the bench with 6 points.
