MADISON, Ind. – Janet Ainslie Somerville Ewing, 104, died Tuesday, Oct. 21, 2008, at her home in Madison.
Funeral services were Saturday, Oct. 25, at Morgan and Nay Funeral Center, 325 Demaree Drive, Madison, Ind., with the Revs. Aaron O’Dell and J.L. Ewing officiating. Burial was in the Bedford I.O.O.F. Cemetery in Bedford, Ky.
Mrs. Ewing was born Dec. 2, 1903, in Trimble County to the late George and Mary Virginia (Wood) Somerville. She lived most of her life in Trimble County, moving to Madison in 1987.
She was a 1921 graduate of Corn Creek Academy and was eligible to teach there.
She was a lifelong member of the Corn Creek Baptist Church and was its oldest and longest-living member. She was a member of the Milton Homemakers.
She was a retired inspector for Meyers Manufacturing in Madison. She enjoyed collecting plates, cups and saucers.
Survivors include a step-daughter, Geraldine Tilly of Paducah, Ky., and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Lois Marie Ewing; her first husband, Charles R. Ewing; her second husband, Noble P. Ewing; two sisters, Martha Hayes and Susie Lapping; and three brothers, Charles, Thomas James and George Somerville.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Corn Creek Baptist Church. Contribution cards are available at the funeral home.
