James D. Black, 84, of Bedford, died Wednesday, Aug. 13, 2008, at Baptist Hospital Northeast in La Grange.
Born July 5, 1924, he was the son of the late Thomas Black and Frieda Chandler Black Tingle
He served in the Navy during WW II. He was employed at the Proving Grounds. He was mayor of the city of Bedford for more than 18 years, served as Bedford Fire Chief and was the first EMT for Trimble County. He was a member of Masonic Lodge #158 where he recently received his 60-year pin. He was a member of the Bedford Baptist Church.
