Hoop Shooters Basketball Camp was held during spring break last week at Kathryn Winn Elementary School gymnasium.

The 21 area boys and girls ages six to 12 who participated in the camp focused on fundamental basketball skills, such as ball handling, passing and shooting; team play and sportsmanship, according to camp coordinator Chuck Roberts. Campers were placed into categories by age, physical maturity and skill level. Each camper received a camp t-shirt at the close of the three-day program.

This was the 11th year for the instructional event, Roberts said. Former campers have improved their skills, developed winning attitudes and are now playing at a higher level.

“Many of them played on the Carroll County Middle School basketball team this year,” Roberts said. “Some are now playing varsity ball on local high school teams and a few are playing in college.”

Camp instructors included many current and former local basketball players, Roberts said.

Proceeds from the camp benefit Carroll County Chapter of Relay for Life and Carroll County Animal Support.
